What a nice mix of books. I really enjoyed Relic. Do you plan to read more of the series?

Yes, I am pretty sure that I will read more of the Pendergast novels. I tried one many years ago and didn‘t like the tone of that novel or Pendergast, but tastes change and Relic is a hoot. I will probably finish it in the early hours of the RAT and potentially pick up the next novel right away. I want to make a dent before my free KU runs out in October.I read Old Bones in May and liked it. I think Nora Kelly shows up in the Pendergast novels as well and he becomes her mentor or something along those lines?

I will ..."I enjoyed Relic and the earlier books in the series, but lost interest after a few adventures. I did enjoy The Lost City of the Monkey God, a nonfiction account of an archeological search for a lost city in Honduras, and I liked Thunderhead with Nora Kelly. I didn’t realize there were more Nora Kelly books. I’ll have to check those out! I think she does appear in the Prendergast novels, but not sure what role she plays
Yes, Nora Kelly has a spin-off series. I learned a lot about the Donner Party in Old Bones. I read Thunderhead 20 years ago or so and liked it as well, but I had forgotten that Nora Kelly was in it.Well, as it turns out the CSD Pride Parade is tomorrow in Stuttgart and that‘s where we‘ll be going. So I guess my RAT reading will mostly happen on Sunday… 😏 One of these days I will really manage to not have other plans. I did ramp up my reading in the last week or so quite nicely already.
No, I never do. I need sleep. Too old! 😏 Plus I‘ll either be at the pride parade for a few hours or at a lake with the same friend, we‘re back to discussing what we want to do more.
I might not even be awake for the start of the RAT, it‘ll be at 2am on Saturday morning here. It’s more likely that I will get up early on Saturday to read for a few hours before meeting my friend and that I then only catch the last 6 hours of the RAT. I do want to read a lot on Sunday though.
I also just realized that I can‘t continue the Pendergast series on KU, only the first book is included and #21. So, KU alternatives for Preston & Child are:
Extinction
The Scorpion's Tail (Nora Kelly #2)
The Cabinet of Dr. Leng (Pendergast #21)
Or
The Cabinet of Curiosities (Pendergast #3) from Libby. I‘m not a big fan of reading on my phone though.

I might not..."
Disappointing! I’m definitely not a fan of reading on my phone for more than a few minutes. Enjoy your reading! I’m planning to make this a weekend readathon too
1) What part of the world are you reading from today? South of Stuttgart, Germany.
2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Finishing Relic and making some progress with Ship of Destiny.
My stack: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
3) Which snacks are you most looking forward to?
I did not prepare anything and didn‘t go grocery shopping at all for the weekend. I have two zucchini in my fridge, a red pepper and 2 small cucumbers. And one tomato and some carb-free crisp bread. 😂
4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I consistently manage to double-book myself for every single readathon. Go, me… Today I will spend a large chunk of my day with two friends at the CSD Pride Parade in Stuttgart. I will catch up with my reading on Sunday.
5) What are your goals for this readathon?
No goals. Read as much as I can, aka not so much during the actual RAT, but on Sunday. It‘ll be more of a 24-in-48 weekend thing. I won‘t use a timer, I‘ll just roughly track my pages and audio time and use my Storygraph stats for Saturday and Sunday. I‘ll probably ignore Discord.
My TBR for this weekend:currently reading:
- Sixty Harvests Left: How to Reach a Nature-Friendly Future, paper, non-fiction, 59/359 pages.
-
- A Marvellous Light, 7h 37m of 14h 30m of audio.
- Poison Ivy (2022-) Vol. 1: The Virtuous Cycle, eComic. 10/204 pages.
- New Adventures in Space Opera, Netgalley, short stories, read the introduction, at 4%.
- Ship of Destiny (Liveship Traders #3), ebook, finished chapter 11, 279/913 pages.
planned
- The Wren in the Holly Library, on hold for the Libby ebook.
- Rotkehlchen (Harry Hole #3), paper
Mood reading, KU alternatives for Preston & Child are:
- Extinction
- The Scorpion's Tail (Nora Kelly #2)
- The Cabinet of Dr. Leng (Pendergast #21)
Or
- The Cabinet of Curiosities (Pendergast #3) from Libby. I‘m not a big fan of reading on my phone though.

New Adventures in Space Opera looks great. A lot of authors I love in that collection! I'll have to keep an eye out for it when it comes out.Finding stuff I might not know about otherwise is one of the great things about Readathon and seeing what other folks are reading :-)
Cathy wrote: "I want to finish Relic first, I plan to read the first story in that collection after that."Nice. I'm going to try to read a few short stories later on. They can be a nice break from just novels.

I did have a good time, yes. The pride parade in Stuttgart is always fun. And definitely going to the end now and beyond.I hope you‘re having a good RAT as well! I will probably only check everybody‘s reading logs and the hourly topics tomorrow.

After this I will only check tomorrow (evening) as well. Going straight to bed as soon as it ends (maybe only doing my graphics) but will be away all of sunday.

No choice, bad planning… 😂
Lamilla wrote: "Enjoy your Sunday reading! I like how you manage to combine reading with other activities :)"I try to! Did the bath last night with face mask but son got home early so cut it a bit short, but was relaxing. Hope you also have a great Sunday!
So far, so good. Did a lot of house cleaning actually, with my audiobook. But I also sat on my balcony with a glass of wine and a book. Making dinner now and contemplating which audio to start next, now that I finished A Marvellous Light.

So far my October readathon weekend looks to be free! 🥳 🤞 I joined the month-long Horrorathon on Discord, so this is a kind of pre-readathon for me. No TBR though, so first I will read my planned buddy reads and then I‘ll have a look at what‘s left of that Horrorathon bingo card…
Nice, Cathy!I am not sure yet if we will be doing some pumpkin carving that day, but we'll see. I always really like the October read-a-thon
