SOLVED. Supernatural fantasy, Belfast, young heroine. [s]

I read this book sometime between 1993-1996. I think it was set in Belfast, Italy. It began with the main heroine, a young teenage girl, arriving at her sister's inn to help out with guests.

Sometime later on, she decides to stay in one of the guest cottages by herself. One day, she is about to write with a pen( or pencil, can't remember) when suddenly it begins writing "My name is...." all on its own!

AS the novel unfolds, it is revealed that the ghost of a woman is communicating with the young heroine through pen and paper.

I think the woman died along with her lover after they went over a cliff with their horse in a suicidal move.

Cannot remember title nor author....your help is invaluable!!
