SOLVED. Sci fi fantasy about a planet with crystalline creatures. [s]

I started reading a book during quiet time in high school 20+ years ago. I had to return it and never finished the book. The book itself I would guess was published 50s-70s. It was about a man that arrived on a planet where everything was crystalline instead of organic. He was attached and nearly killed. Some friendly creature saved him and replaced some of his organs with crystal ones. The friendly creature was blue in color and I think he named it Azure. That’s about as much of the book as I can remember, would like to pick it back up where I left off.
