I read this story around 2018 to 2019 in my high school English class' textbook. It is about a female inventor who in high school heard the voice of her friend through a hole in the wall (which in some way relates to pasta. She experiments with this and finds that long, giant tubes of pasta are the most efficient way to talk to people over long distances. She patents this technology and starts selling it to the masses. It soon takes off and leaves the entire earth covered in long stretches of tubes of noodles. People can't leave their homes because of how much pasta there is everywhere and they don't want to because it's so much easier to communicate with people because of the noodles. The inventor however in her old age has a crisis about how this pasta has eroded the communication she treasured in her high school days. She tries to leave her home only to realize that she is completely surrounded by pasta and can barely move. In a desperate attempt to leave she starts crawling through one of the tubes of pasta. She dies in it and her body is never found, or people can hear her from the pasta but they don't care to find her (I can't remember).
I would be very grateful for any help finding this book it was so weird and wonderful to read and I just wish I could make certain that it existed and it wasn't some strange story I made up. Thank you!
