Any rec's for a reader who last read YA SF/F in 2016?

Hey everyone, I am Rachel. Looking to getting back into reading! Any rec's for someone who last read SF/F young adult in 2016? Is there anything big I've missed that you recommend I "catch up" on?

For reference the last thing I read was "Dragons of Pern." Yes, I know that's older but I'm not an expert! I liked it a lot.

I love fantasy more than scifi, but I'll read anything.

Someone recommended "Mistborn" to me, is it good?

Can you let me know why you like a book? Thanks so much!

I haven't read "Mistborn", but it has good reviews. I would recommended the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin and Scythe by Neal Shutersman. "Six of Crows" duology is very good

For fantasy, you could check out authors like Juliet Marillier
Jeanette O'Hagan
or N.R. Eccles-Smith

For fairy tale retellings in a futuristic world, there's The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. They might work for you. Cinder

Mistborn definitely worth a try. Brandon Sanderson also has a YA sci-fi series which starts with Skyward, also worth a shot.
Other options could include Garth Nix’s ‘Sabriel’

There's a group read currently for #1 in the Queen's Thief series, The Thief. That's an excellent series. Or have you read Inda?

Sarah J Maas is very popular for YA fantasy and Terah Edun writes YA fantasy with a fair chunk of romance thrown in. For more adult fantasy, there is plenty to choose from - Trudi Canavan, Sara Douglass, Brandon Sanderson and, of course, the one author to rule them all - Tolkien 😁

John Scalzi is a great introduction to sci fi. Mark Lawrence's Impossible Times trilogy is a great sci fi story that is borderline YA/adult.

Maria Snyder has some good fantasy, starting with Poison Study, that is New Adult. Garth Nix's Sabriel is great, and Brandon Sanderson's Skyward series, Reckoners series, and The Rithmatist are all excellent. I am also enjoying The Queen's Thief series.

Personally I don't like Sarah Maas, Laini Taylor, or Leigh Bardugo, and Marissa Meyers is meh, but I'm not the right audience for them.
