I am searching for a book/series that I found while perusing Amazon a couple months ago, and promptly forgot the name of it after reading the description and sample. It is the first book in a series.
The premise is that the princess (and protagonist) is celebrating at a party that is centered around her being sacrificed soon. In her family, the princess is sacrificed so that her blood can be used to find the next king. This is done by her brothers, the princes, drinking her blood and the next king will be the only one not poisoned by the princesses blood.
The family mystic/seer figure who is in charge of this deed however, believes the princess to be the true next ruler instead of her brothers. So the sacrifice of the princess is no longer needed, and the brothers are upset that this means that they will not have the chance to be king.
