Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling by J. K. Rowing (#2 in series)

Finished: 4/6/15
Rating: ★★★★

Review: I enjoyed revisiting the book and reading it in its original form, with the British slang rather than the American ones. Being American myself, our slang makes it easier to understand some of what's being said in the narration, but coupled with the original slang in the dialogue proves very jarring. I feel the change also seems to take something away from the book in the "translation." I stumbled upon the original versions in audiobooks and am loving them more than I had the very first time I read this series. This book was good but I think I like Philosopher's Stone a little more than this one as it's all exciting and new no matter how many times you read it in discovering Hogwarts all over again with Harry learning of it the first time. I love the humor in these books, the mystery of each volume even as I know whodunit every time I've re-read it, as well as the character development and interactions. It's a fun journey and like visiting an old friend, even with the upsets looming for me later in the series.

Ora (oeamis) Week 3 Spot 24 4th in series
Consumed (Dark Protectors, #4) by Rebecca Zanetti
April 6, 2015 ★★★★1/2

The further I get in this series, the more I am enjoying the books. This one takes place 10 years later from the last book. The war between the Kujans and the Realm has taken a toll on both sides. The Realm scientists are still working on finding a cure for mates and shifters from becoming werewolves.
Katie got infected in the last book. Even though the scientists were able to stop the infection from progressing, she lost her ability to shift, however is able to track werewolves. This book picks up with Jordan getting infected and finding Katie and ordering to Realm headquarters.
Jordan and Katie’s story have been building up since the beginning of the series. I really love these characters. Both have been fighting their attraction for each other, even though the realization came later for Jordan. In the midst of the turmoil of dealing with war, Katie has an evolved werewolf stalking her and wanting her to become his mate.
With a limited time to find a way to save Jordan, Katie decides to save him by mating with him, which is ironic because Jordan wanted to do that 10 years to help Katie and she refused. Jordan is reluctant, however in the ends does mate when Katie challenges him and she gives him no choice. It turned out that she wound up having to do more than let Jordan mate with her in order to save him and in the end help find a vaccine for the shifters.

Review: This is second book of Chocolate Lovers series by Tara Sives. So after the “Snacks” book everything is as good as can be for Carter, Claire and theirs son, Gavin. But to Carter it’s not enough. He wants to marry Claire.

So this book is about marriage, family, funny situation with booze and pot cookies.

Into the Wind by Shira Anthony
Into the Wind (Mermen of Ea, #2) by Shira Anthony

Read: (4/5)

Rating: ★★★★½

I love the world that has been created here. It's stunning. There is such a vivid quality to the writing that I really feel connected and can easily visualize this world and the characters in it. Taren and Ian may be the reborn souls of star crossed lovers, but that doesn't mean everything is smooth sailing for them either. There are still a lot of misunderstandings and frustrations that they are dealing with.

In some ways I felt like Taren and Ian's relationship took a step back in this story as they weren't really ready to deal with each other outside of the simple life they'd been living as they recovered from the events of the first book. Now that they're back out on another quest and the stakes are high all of the insecurities and need to control the situation have sprung back up. Taren is learning to find his own feet yet Ian is constantly trying to wrap him up and protect him and it's causing a lot of friction between them.

There's a good section of the book where Taren is off on his own and while I understood the purpose of it in the book it was the one point where the story dragged a little for me despite what was going on. I got a little tired of reading about Ian's pacing and wondering what's up with Taren and hoping that he was ok. But it did force Taren to really start thinking about what he wanted and who he was outside of the reincarnated soul.

I actually really liked Odhran and am curious to really learn more about him. I suspected a number of his tricks but didn't have it all figured out and I liked that. The life he's created for himself is both awesome and sad and I loved that Taren really shakes him out of his shell even if it's not what Ian wants to see. Odhran makes Ian nervous and I'm sure there's bound to be more issues here in the future.

So this book ends on something of a cliff hanger and I'm now jonesing to read the next book. This story took a turn in the last section of the book that was completely unexpected to me. I found myself jaw dropped going WHAT??? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! a fair bit there towards the end. The last section is definitely action packed and flew by. I really need to know what happens next because things just got interesting. ;)

It's one of my favorite series. I got interrupted before I could start Acheron and thought it better to refresh myself on the series to prevent getting hopelessly lost. Oh dear, must re-read about fierce warrior men in battles. Such a terrible burden. :-)

On that happy note, I think I will go with Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter companion novel) by Sherrilyn Kenyon as my book choice. I have Acheron earmarked for another challenge and really need to get started on the multiple books before it so I can read his book.

This was really just ok for me. I had trouble keeping the characters separate in my head. I don't know why I struggled so much but I had to often go back and re-read sections to find out whether Trent or Shawn was talking and kept having to remind myself which was which. I didn't dislike the story, but I didn't love it either. It was a fast simple read, that kept my attention without having me engrossed.

Trent's history was really sad and I definitely understood the struggles he was having in accepting Shawn into his life. This was probably one of my favorite parts of the story. His fears about loving another cop were justifiable and needed to be addressed before he could really move on and be a true partner to Shawn.

I think part of my problems may have come because I kept getting the personality I expected of Shawn from Trent. For a cop Shawn is more intelligence than brawn. His observational skills were really great and I did appreciate the way his brain worked, but he often came across as a bit of a klutz and somehow his heroic actions always seemed to need someone else to step in and help.

Still I enjoyed the story and the mystery wasn't badly done if a bit anti-climatic. I was entertained and these two together are definitely HOT! The erotica sections were VERY WELL DONE! A bit of fanning needed. ;)

The Unleashing (Call of Crows, #1) by Shelly Laurenston
April 13, 2015 ★★★★

This is the first book in a brand new series for Shelly Laurenston. Kera is a former Marine and was just going through life without any real purpose. While working she accidently comes up on a man ruffing up a woman and reacts to stop the abuse, which winds up killing her. Vig calls upon the goddess Skuld to save her by making her a crow.
Kera has a hard time adjusting to her new life at first. Vig helps her out a lot with teaching how to fly and how to not feel guilty about killing when necessary. After a lot of growing pains, Kera realizes that she belongs to a sisterhood that will always have her back and she will never be alone again.
I’m not sure if I read this correctly, however it appears to me that there will be more than one book with Kera and Vig since she hasn’t completed a mission that the goddess Freya gave her. There were no cliff hangers at the end; however you can tell this was just a small piece of the overall story. So I don’t know if this is going to be like Cat and Bones with multiple books, or if one of Kera’s sister crows will have their story while Kera completes her mission.

Finished: April 14, 2015

Review: Re-reading this book reminded me of how much I enjoyed this series originally before I got interrupted and never got back to it. I now want to correct that and revisit the world and characters I fell in love with years ago. This is a fun and hot book and touches on one of my favorite subjects: Greek myth. I like the character development and interactions, bits of history, and humor throughout the book. The world building is also quite well done. I look forward to continuing this series and finally getting to those books still left unread before I am literally buried in them. The one problem I do have is the fight scene between Julian and Eros. If he drew Eros' blood (ichor) every mortal within a mile of him would be dead. But, then again, that would screw up the book a whole lot. Just one of those things you're not supposed to notice, I suppose. Or just accept as a glaring error and go on, as I did. It didn't ruin any of my enjoyment of the book. It only stuck out at me as an oops.

Review:

Scott O'Dell wrote a lot of children's and young adult novels. I think he is one of the best for everyone. I have read nearly everything but one I have been unable to find. This book was written in 1984 and is labeled Historical. He is most famous for the Island of the Blue Dolphins.

Lucinda de Cabrillo y Benivides is a 17 year old girl whose mad, although very wealthy father just has died. In her father's will she is left all his riches, including his private island, Isla del Oro. There is only one problem, her father's best friend, Ricardo Villaverde is her legal guardian until Lucinda is 18.

When the will is approved Senor Villaverde will control the island and Lucinda. Just when Lucinda thinks things can't get any worse, her arrogant fiance, Porfirio, and his neurotic mother arrive. Lucinda's father and Porfirio's mother arranged the marraige.

Porfirio begins to take control of the gold mines on the island, which causes the superintendent of the mines, Zoyo, to get angry with Lucinda. Then strange things begin to happen, someone is trying to kill Lucinda. Is it one of the servants, Villaverde, Zoyo, or another of the island folk? This book is very intriguing. Scott O'Dell
described the characters and the setting precisely so it was easy for the reader to

picture. He kept me into the story with surprising events that enticed me to keep reading. However, the book was a bit confusing. I also thought that it slowed down some- times, but when an exciting part came it was a real gripper.

Review: It proved kind of hard for me to follow without description or a visual image to go with it, as it is a play and meant to be acted out, but it's an okay story. As it's all dialogue with some stage directions, all I really got from it was a lot of people standing around talking to one another and arguing. Still, I would like to watch a version of it actually portrayed so I might better understand it and what's going on.
