Started... back to the non-Witches... :(

Looks like this one is Egyptian-themed... historical Ankh-Morpork... some plot conceits.... and a more anthology book structure in 4 parts, all referencing Egyptian mythology books of the afterlife and the like...

I'm about 1/4 through, I think, and so far, this is just proving everything I/we said in the previous thread, about how hit or miss alot of us are with this series...

I have started and I have read part one (view spoiler)[ i loved how the old king liked her handmaiden because when she doesn't sing the world appears brighter

The high priest names is distracting though. In Spanish it means God, so I am betting he is a god and is somehow responsible of the sun

It's also funny that it's said that the old king is supposed to be a god and then it says that he is afraid of Dios (god)

The assassin school part was really funny, how Teppen passed the test when he wanted fo fail and the questions they asked (hide spoiler)]

Yeah, I liked that this book focuses more on Egyptian mythology, at least I got more references right than the last witches book with all those Shakespeare references which I absolutely didn't get

I actually really started to like the story in books 2-4 of the plot... probably group it with Mort in my rankings I did last book

Participation seems to be dwindling, after the lackluster feelings in previous books/threads... and/or people are busy/sick... hopefully more continue to tag along late...

I am currently at 48%. I enjoyed part one but was confused with what was going on with Teppic after (view spoiler)[ the King dies and he is almost in a trance like state. Did he die or what is causing this paralysis? They said he was breathing and then he sits up and obviously as the book goes on he is alive and the new ruler. (hide spoiler)]

This might be a bit of a spoiler, but these are Pratchett books, so it shouldn't hurt story enjoyment, really... (view spoiler)[the basic conceit of the story is that pyramids are magical focal points for creating time loops / stasis loops, so pharoahs can basically live forever (technically)... it's a real Groundhog Day situation... but only that old advisor dude that enforces the rules, knows what's going on?... he really doesn't like it when MC Teppic tries to deviate from his role/narrative... That makes sense. I finished part 2 and some of that does get explained. I am finding this story interesting with the Egyptian setting.

I’m still in. Just eye reading this and I eye read when I go to bed, so usually I’m tired and pass out after a few pages. I’m around page 50. It’ll take me some time to finish this one at this rate though.

Well, shucks. I read this like a week ago but apparently never commented... well, that was when I had a 103 degree fever, so I'm not surprised I forgot...

I liked this one a lot though... felt a bit like those Mel Brooks History of the World movies...

Can't remember much at this point, but there was one scene where one dude was like "let's get a drink!" and then they went down to the river. LOL.

I did like how this was a poke, not just on Egyptian mythology, but religious institutions in general...

I am 20% in and am laughing like a maniac! The Egyptian King/god is hilarious! I have no idea how I am making the sun rise, but I trust things will work themselves out. The problem would be if it doesn't rise one day and I have no idea what to do... Hahaha!

OMG! Dios needs to die! Poor handmaiden didn't want to take the "voluntary" poison and now she needs to be put to death!!! What a crock! Same with the cutting off the b
hand after the king shook it...

I absolutely loved it! Five star read for me! I don't think I have a character/story setting that I prefer, I just love them all:)

Finished too, pretty good, I loved it was about egyptian mythology since its one of my favourites (view spoiler)[ I especially liked when all the gods where fighting for the sun and there was this Priest who was narraring what happened like it was a sports match. And how sometimes to go to court the nobles walked sideways just like the paintings (hide spoiler)]

Finally finished. I do think this series benefits from being eye read. This one wasn’t as good as the last but I’m going to eye read them from now on as I think they’re more enjoyable this way.

Totally! You miss how much he plays with the language when you listen to them...

I am about to finish Wyrd Sisters but I won't be joining in with this one. I feel like I would get burned out on this series fast doing two per month so I will take it at slower pace.

I just finished this one. The bottom of the heap so far though still plenty of entertaining bits that made me giggle. I feel like this one dragged on for a bit too long. Onto the next one.

I finally got restarted and am through Part 1 (view spoiler)[The story started capturing my interest now that the Pharoh-ship has passed on. Seems it really is partly godlike. Funny how Teppic knew a lot of things. (hide spoiler)] Fingers crossed I can stay interested.

Obviously Dios is using Pyramid power to keep himself functional.
