In the second book, An Anatomy of Beasts, it looks like she finds her grandparents with a "separate population of people."

The protagonist and her classmates/peers are doing like, tours? of the facility to decide what they'd be doing there. The protagonist starts to feel like something is not right and her parents warn her to not eat the new dish the cafeteria is serving. (we find out later that as long as the colony people dont eat the meat from animals on the planet they wont smell like prey to them)
At the end of the first book she ends up breaking the animals out of facility after learning some things that the colony was doing and escaping into the jungle where she finds her grandparents.
In the second book she goes back to the colony to rescue some of her friends. I know one boy and one girl came with her for sure but cant remember exactly.
The indigenous people live in trees that can make new room pods, provide clothes, ect. They don't eat meat. Their youth are genderless until adulthood? when they can decide their own gender. One genderless youth joins the protagonist's 'core group'.
She ends up leaving the indigenous people with her group of friends to find out what really happened when their craft landed on the planet because (of course) most of what she was told in the colony was a lie.
They find the original spacecraft being guarded by people from the colony and sneak in. They find the dead pilot and some type of...pin? A monstrous creature appears and they escape.
At some point she is communicating with her grandparents through a lake? The animals of the planet start to want to attack her one friend from the colony and she realizes she ate the meat. Her colony friends are unhappy she is more like the indigenous people than them.
The last thing I remember was the planet putting out like, a warning? and declaring war on the colony people and her deciding she was siding with the indigenous peoples.
can anyone help me find this?
