► UNSOLVED: One specific book > Children's Picture book. Boy is looking for a Wizard but is unable to find one because of his preconceived notions of what a wizard looks like (old men with beards). Animals in wizard hats. Read around 2002-2006.

Robin Redding | 2 comments Read around 2002-2006. It was a very short book for young children. The thing I remember most were the illustrations, they were very colorful and vibrant, in a kind of pastel watercolor style.

The plot was about a boy who goes out in search of a wizard, and he knows when he's found one because his hands get tingly when he's near them (weird I know, but that's what I remember). He comes across several animals in wizard hats, one after another, who all tell him they are wizards. But despite his hands tingling, he doesn't believe them because he thinks all wizards are old men with beards. He leaves the animals behind, but he never ends up finding what he believes to be a wizard.

I definitely remember one of the animals was a horse, and I think another was a cat? But I can't remember much else, and no amount of searching on my end has turned it up so far.

Robin, why is the boy trying to find a wizard?

I copied a few book details to the topic header. Feel free to edit it.

Apologies, I didn't see your comment until just now.
I can't remember a specific reason why the boy was looking for a wizard, it might have just been that he wanted to meet one. I don't think the book was too heavy on the details, being around the length and reading level of those little golden books (although it wasn't itself one).
