my mom is trying to remember a book she read in the 90s but can only remember what the cover is like. she also says it was sort of hard to digest and that the author is not north american.

Aj, could it be Sophie’s World by Jostein Gaarder (who is Norwegian). It was published in 1995. It’s about a girl who keeps receiving philosophical papers in her post. At the end of the book you find out she is actually a character in a book that a man is writing for his daughter (if that jogs your mum’s memory). Hope I could help!
