This one, I think was actually two books from a set, with a natural-history theme. I only remember one about fireflies. "Blink [something, something] light/Blink [something]/Blink: quite bright." The text, IIRC, was printed *over* the photos/illustrations, not next to or under it.

Sorry, that's all I can remember. I'm fairly sure they were new when I read them in the 1970s.
