New Book with Corresponding Reading Plan!

I would be interested in how you developed the YouVersion plan

It was not easy. I first approached them asking if I could submit one, and they told me no. They only allow big media companies, celebrity personalities with name recognition, large publishers and groups like that to create them.

Then they told me, “If you want to create a Japanese reading plan we’d accept it. The Japanese Christian church is severely underserved and we desperately need reading plans in that language.” Well that’s not really in my wheelhouse, but never one to turn away from a challenge (or a way of spreading the Word), I wrote a reading plan and translated it online through Google translate. I then found a Japanese Christian church in St. Louis and the pastor offered to check it for context and flow. He returned it to me, and I submitted it to YouVersion.

In just the first month, it had 500 completions. By comparison, a plan by Kathie Lee Gifford that had been out for two years had 2500 completions. But that’s in a much-larger English market, a much longer period of time, created by one of the largest publishers in the USA, and she’s freaking Kathie Lee!

So I re-approached YouVersion and asked them to reconsider because of the success of my Japanese plan. Within 24 hours I had an email reply with the green light to run with it!

It was a lesson in perseverance pays off. And much more so than any numbers or metrics, I’m so happy to be able to help His kingdom here on Earth and reach thousands of people to spread the gospel, hope, and encouragement.
