The TV show made Elena more relatable than the book. I like her character a bit more in the TV show. In the book, she is self-centered and thinks more about herself.

Chapter 12: (view spoiler)[I never really liked Mr. Tanner, but I do not wish for anyone to be murdered in such a way. Also, I feel bad for Bonnie because she found him dead. I do think that the fact that Katharine chose both Salvatore brothers, and then killed herself was really messed up. I really wonder what she thought would happen after she died because to me it seems like it tore the brothers apart because of her choice. (hide spoiler)]
