I read those and I still don't understand how a publishing company became author. Because we don't have the real authors? So what? We can use "Unknown" or "Various", even in cases they use nicknames and not proper names. Because it suits some readers having those books in lists? So lets make an author "Marvel Comics" or "DC Comics", or "National Geographic", because they are some of the biggest companies out there and some of us could gather lots of printed material, because "Goodreads" staff does not decide eventually to create publishing companies or languages as part of the database.

These are not practical solutions rather than sloppiness... And it's definitely wrong to use a field reffering to persons for such purpose. It seems, however, that some are taking advantage of this practice and making it even bigger. In a few years it would be more difficult correcting those cases. How could librarians agreed to such practice? Regardless of the books issue, you should have knowledge of how a database works and figure out what could be improved in the future. Not to accept a proposal by anyone because it's "convenient" at the time, absent further computer programming.
