RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Cheryl you can read up to 4 books a week. Without being flagged. If you read more than 4 books. The mods will contact you.

message 452: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Books read per week:

Allison Ann - 11 books.
Rachel - 11 books.
Michelle - 7 books.
Cheryl - 4 books.
Diane - 3 books.
Mollie - 2 books.

If you read more you'll get red flagged and the mods will contact you. 1. You can either read larger books to keep in your book range. 2. Up your books read and they will adjust the other groups by adding in more members. I suggest you do option 1. When caught in the option 2 you are stuck in the cycle of having to read more. I did that in TT. I will not do that again. It was way too many books. :P

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments That you are! :)

I've started Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It's going to be a 20 point book.

What color for our cover shall we pick? Should it be the first book posted?

Also, I have a DQ day for BotM on next Saturday so that will be extra points. It's the last chapters of the book. :)

message 458: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I'd say we just use the first solid colour book that gets finished.

Allison Ann | 1408 comments Well we definitely lost some of our lead this week which makes me want to read more books next week which I'm not allowed to do, which annoys me a bit but oh well. So I checked and I have 4 books over 500 pages, so those are going on deck for my first reads.

message 461: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments I know Allison Ann, that's how I feel too. I have a bunch of books that are 500+ pages. I'm planning on read as many as those possible to get those points. If I'm able to get all 11 in that is 220 points just from me.

message 462: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I found a fifth giant book. :D And they are almost all vowel books too.

message 463: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Keep seeking them Allison Ann. We will get the better of the limitations in the weekly number of books.

message 464: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments It is absolutely ludicrous how many of the books I want to read are 490-something pages.

message 465: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments My library doesn't have the May SciFi/Fantasy or YA BotMs. And there is no way I am suffering through Me Before You again even for you, beloved Rubies! ;) So I'll keep my fingers crossed that I get picked for The Girl on the Train for week after next.

message 466: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments When I saw Me Before You. I was like nope nope nope nope. I will NOT re-read that, EVER!

I read Red Rising, it's just like Hunger Games.

I signed up for The Girl on the Train. I hope I get picked for the DQ if not I hope you get it Allison Ann.

I'm also reading the backroom BotM which I'm dreading. I really don't want to read it because it doesn't look interesting at all. But I figured I'd jump on that grenade for the group.

I too have a bunch of books that are in the 490 pages. :(

message 467: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl | 910 comments No fat books from me this week, I do not expect. But I will try to increase to 4 books done this week.

The first book that I am working on is A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain by Robert O. Butler (from my Pulitzer Prize TBR list) followed by The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers (on my Must Read list).

Do you really get red-flagged if you read more some weeks or do you have to do it consistently to get red flagged. The number is an average. Some weeks I might read 1 or 2 books and others I might read 3 or 4.

message 469: by RachelvlehcaR (last edited Apr 12, 2015 12:28AM) (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Diane, I know that I get red flagged that week. I'm not sure about others. I try to warn everyone when they are close to it. I know that Michelle and Allison Ann have been over. I'm not sure if Renee contacted them or not.

I did get red flagged on the first week and I didn't hit the 200% mark. So I try to warn everyone when they are close to the 200% mark. Normally a book or two before it.

I'm sure there is a give and take between the weeks.

message 470: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I got flagged before we even began the challenge. :D But I haven't been contacted since we started, I think my average is close enough that I'm okay.

And I found a 6th chunky book. I am determined to up my points somehow. 220 pts is the goal. So far I'll be reading... Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle, #2) by Christopher Paolini 11/22/63 by Stephen King A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff Roots The Saga of an American Family by Alex Haley and Mexico by James A. Michener . After these I'm not sure.

Cheryl - I think I loved The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. I may be mixing it up with another book in my head, but I hope it's a great read.

message 471: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments ah, so reading a little over is ok, just don't hit 200% Thanks for the clarification.

message 472: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments So, I didn't get any reading done yesterday, since it was TableTop day. I had friends over from 2:00pm - 1:30am. I did get to play Seven Dragons, Viticulture, Diamonds, Roll for the Galaxy and Castles of Mad King Ludwig.

But today is raining, so I will likely hang out on the couch with my dog and read.

message 473: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Allison Ann, I'm still working on 11/22/63. I'm half way through it and stopped. I don't have that version on 19th wife. I have the original version of it. It's kind of interesting. I also started that last year and stopped. Have your read James Michener before? his books are larger! I had to read one of his books for a challenge so I read the shortest book he wrote, it was 250 pages, lol. About some guys in the war. I was like umm, this sucks. It's just that it wasn't a genre I'd like to read, not that it was bad. The subject was something I didn't like. I was thinking of picking up one of his books.

message 474: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Diane, fun! My board game friends were out of town. :( They had to take a friend back. He is stationed in the LA area now. So we did our gaming before, while he was here visiting. I love games. We've been playing a lot of Nuclear War and Munchkins.

What is Roll for the Galaxy? Sounds interesting. Kind of Terry Pratchett style sounding. ;)

message 475: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2438 comments @ Rachel - Roll for the Galaxy is the dice version of Race for the Galaxy (which I'd never played because I heard the learning curve was steep). It is a space themed game where you are settling worlds and building tech. I really liked it and may end up purchasing it.

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments Completed The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman this morning. It had all letters but N. Updated our sheet. I didn't put it on the spell out side because I wasn't sure where the greatest need for letters would be yet.

I have a couple more to finish today from the library and I need to find a book to cover a BINGO category for a different group, so I should knock out a few today.

message 480: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments It was pretty good. I rated it 3 stars. Interesting to hear Newton's perspective on being in solitary and his take on Shakespeare. Got me interested in reading some plays now that I'm older and out of school. But the author's perspective and recounting seemed a bit dry and sanitized. Super-max prison has to be worse that how she describes it. But overall I was glad I read it.

message 481: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Hmm, not sure if I'll pick it up. Just from your remark of the super-max prison, I have no desire to read about that if it isn't realistic. I can't stand the book, no scratch that I loathe, really strong loathe, Orange is the New Black. I found the book just horrible. I was disgusted with Piper and her lack of responsibility then say poor me when she had it major easy. She really made it seem like and even said that it reminded her of the girls dorm in college. If the book is anything like Orange is the New Black I have no desire to touch it. It's just a major bias on my part.

message 483: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1408 comments I finished The 19th Wife today. It was interesting - part Ann Eliza Young's story, part her parents' stories and part a contemporary murder mystery involving relatives of the original polygamists. Honestly, the only part I didn't like was switching between the three, my preference would have been to not switch back and forth so much. I started 11/22/63 after I finished so that will be tomorrow's work book. Tonight I'm going to read Dune, technically re-read but with 25 years since I last read it, the story isn't fresh. ;) I didn't realize it was over 500 pages and I need a far future book for another challenge so I dug out my university days book box and there it was.

I haven't read Michener is awhile, but I absolutely loved some of his novels (Hawaii, Texas, Alaska spring to mind) and hated some of his others. I think Mexico will be a good one.

Isn't that nice! I hate it when they finish it in a bad way. Makes me so sad to end in that way. The worst is when the author doesn't even finish the series at all. That happened to me when I read The Mummy by Anne Rice. I read that in high school and learned there wasn't a sequel. Talk about major bummer.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 4364 comments Allison Ann wrote: "I finished The 19th Wife today. It was interesting - part Ann Eliza Young's story, part her parents' stories and part a contemporary murder mystery involving relatives of the origin..."

A friend of mine told me to read the book. I wanted to pick up the original before picking up this one. Once I finish it, I'll read this one.

I'm half way through 11//22/63. I have to say I like Kings character building in it. But it kind of just drags. I'm going to finish by the end of the month. I have to get in the mood for King and his loving to hear himself talk. It's such a shame his writing has went downhill over the years. His earlier stuff is amazing.

I heard wonderful things about Hawaii by Michener. His books are big books, I mean big. I only read that little one. It wasn't my cup of tea but it was about the war.

It's kind of odd. I noticed that so far, the letters that might give us trouble are the double letters. We have lots of options in our books we have selected. It's those "E"s and "A"s that we have to watch for.

So far we are doing well. Already 100 points and our cover book is your blue Shakespeare book Michelle. Over 70% blue. :)

Okay back to Emma. This is my first time reading it.

I'm on Book 5, but I read the first 4 back to back and overdosed, now I'm taking a little break. TV just doesn't hold my attention and I am incapable of following a show from week to week. Maybe when the whole thing is done and out I'll mainline the episodes.

Everyone has been telling me how wonderful it is but I am not enjoying to much. I find it so slow moving. Boring. So I started to read Hannibal. I'd like to finish this series. I plan on finishing either tonight or tomorrow. I'm also reading The First Queen of England: The Myth of "Bloody Mary" to break up the bigger books.

I should have some books flowing in.
