3) Choose your road trip MISHAP C: DETOUR!

Detour! Pick a book that you’ve been avoiding. This could be for any reason; because you don't want it to end, you don't like how the previous book ended, you didn't have a good experience with this author last time, it's up to you!

There is no Goodreads List for this prompt

Cindy Meyers | 19 comments I’m pretty sure I will read Lolita by Nabokov. I read classics on a regular basis, but this one is just so…uncomfortable. I almost read it every year. Ha!

Shonna Froebel | 255 comments I finally finished The Invited by Jennifer McMahon. I started it way back in January 2020 and got stuck and just found my way back.

Michele Olson | 514 comments I haven't exactly been avoiding The Ides of April by Lindsey Davis, but I did make a decision a few years back to take a break from the author, and I've just started reading her books again.

Denise | 554 comments I read Stardust by Neil Gaiman. I wasn't avoiding this particular book per se....i was avoiding the high fantasy prompt for the "regular' challenge. this ended up being the book I chose and read for that prompt

Carol (cquan01) | 587 comments I read Leave The World Behind which is a BOTM from October 2020. I had read some bad reviews so I kept putting off reading it. I found it very suspenseful and rated it 4 stars.

Mary Sue | 144 comments I read The Serial Killer's Wife by Robert Swartwood. This was a free book I had downloaded. I knew nothing about it but when I looked at it the cover seemed kind of creepy, so I had been avoiding reading it.

Aquaria | 286 comments Moby Dick by Herman Melville.

I was right to avoid it. What a dreadfully boring book. I don't get the praise for it, because Melville does everything wrong with it as a writer, namely far too much exposition. Much of the book could have been woven into Ishmael learning all the factoids crammed into the book as he was learning how to work on a whaling boat.

But nope, Melville had to drain our brains by lecturing us on interminable mindless details, and worse, be all wrong about much of it on top of that.
