Νατάσσα (natassaki) | 21 comments Please delete this https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
It have the author's names in wrong type. There is another entry of the same book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... and this is the right one. The ISDN is 9786185602154

Thank you!

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments You are a librarian, any reason you are not doing this yourself? You seem to have the benefit of speaking the language.

It seems that I can't. System doesn't allow me, that's why I asked it.

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments I don't want to insult you by suggesting you don't know the basics, but the editions are not combined so obviously you will not be able to merge them. Is there a problem combining them? I can't do that myself properly because I don't speak the language.

The first book, https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1..., has the authors in a wrong way - the surname first. It' a collection, it has about 20+ authors, and ALL are wrong.

Νατάσσα (natassaki) | 21 comments I don't want to merge them. The first book must be deleted.

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments That's not how things work, and as a librarian you should be fully aware of that.
First, the edition you wish to be "deleted" have been shelved by readers. Deleting such editions is done by combining them with another edition first.
Second, this edition has an ISBN, so it should not be deleted at all. In fact, after combining, the other edition should be deleted.
If the title and authors are incorrect, they should be corrected. If it's too much work, combine, ask support to move the ISBN and then delete.

OK.
The above two registrations were made by the SAME user - not me. He posted the error first, and because he obviously didn't know how to fix it, nor did he agree to ask someone for help, he made a new entry from the beginning. That's why the first one has ISDN. And I can't delete it.

It's so easy for anyone to list a book, and you've made it so difficult to proofread. I don't have an hour of unpaid work to spend fixing someone else's mistake. Since you won't delete the wrong entry, I'm not willing to do anything else about it - I give up, even if they both stay.
I know that Greek is a "small" language, with few users, and apparently Goodreads doesn't care, but I didn't expect them to make the correction so difficult.
Thanks for your time.

Emily | 17614 comments Superlibrarians do not work for Goodreads. We are volunteers with a few extra librarian abilities. We don’t have insight into what Goodreads cares about.

Non librarians are no longer able to add new items to the database as of June of last year. So unfortunately the librarian who added the records must be misinformed also. If you wish you can always flag the edits.

message 10: by David (new)

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments What Emily said.

In addition, I'm not sure why you find combining so difficult, it takes 10 seconds to do. I don't speak the language but I managed to find the two editions, change one author name and combine.

Asking support to move the ISBN from one edition to another takes another 30 seconds. I went ahead and did that too. By the time you read this, they would probably have done it.

Actually posting here took ten times what it would have taken you to fix everything yourself.

It's not a librarian, but one of the authors. I cannot see when they changed their own name to Lastname Firstname in all-caps, but I flagged one of their latest edits when they changed a title to all-caps.

message 12: by Emily (new)

Emily | 17614 comments Oh I did not notice that they were one of the authors. Thanks lethe.

message 13: by David (new)

David Raz (davidraz) | 13082 comments It took support 20 minutes to move the ISBN and I merged the edition as requested. Again, none of this should have been in the superlibrarian folder.

Thank you David and Emily for your advice in this thread, and for your willingness to guide others.

Reiterating that Superlibrarians are not staff, rather they are Librarians who are awarded extra permissions due to their history of strong Librarian work, excellent judgment and deep knowledge.

Νατάσσα, there is always so much to learn about Librarian work. I've worked here for almost 8 1/2 years and I constantly learn new things! If you're interested on reading more about combining or removing books on Goodreads, I can recommend:

Librarian Manual: Combining, merging and separating editions

Librarian Manual: Book Status (“Public”, “Invalid”, “Deleted”)

This thread has run its course, so I'm closing it. 😊
