The Fellowship of the Ring is the first book. The Two Towers is the second. The Return of the King is the third. The Lord of the Rings is the trilogy as a whole.

No, though it is usually recommended to read it first, and it does give a backstory to how exactly Bilbo got the ring, but you don't have to read it first.

The Silmarillion is about the history of middle earth before the war of the ring, but I would suggest reading it after reading the hobbit and the Lord of the rings.
