I was disappointed in the end - where is Alex? We never know how Jane died or exactly why - she never took off her ring??- maybe it was bothering her - why would Dan take it?

From whatI took from the end was that Dan did kill her & that's how he got the ring. I don't understand about the guy who confessed though. I was very disappointed in this book since I loved Defending Jacob.

I agree the ring was problematic. I think we are to assume that Dan was the killer but with all his attention to detail and knowledge of how to get away with a crime, why would he hold on to the ring? It doesn't make any sense. And why was it not found when his home was searched by the police when he was a suspect? And how did the person who confessed to the murder know about the birthmark/scar that Jane Larkin had since it was never made public. Did the police provide that information in order to try to close the case out? These are the things that bothered me about the ending.
