Meli (melihooker) | 105 comments I finished Lights Out by R.L. Stine last week.
Solid 3 star read. Nothing too ground breaking, but a fun suspenseful mystery set in a summer camp. Perfect summer read you can finish in 1 sitting.

Horrorlit reddit LOVES this book... I gave it 4 stars, rounded up from 3.5.
I think it's... OK? I am kinda torn.
The book is a story-with..."

If you feel this way, I highly recommend picking up John Langan's short story collections.

Meli (melihooker) | 105 comments Thanks for the recommend, Wyrd Witch! I like his writing and I love short stories.

I just finished this one for the summer series and it is really really great. Good summertime cult fun lol

Adrienne L I completed my goal of six books for the challenge earlier this week when I finished Evil Whispers. I didn't realize until I picked it up that this book takes place in November, but it's a family vacation in Florida, so I'm still counting it. I may also still re-read Burnt Offerings before the challenge ends.

November in FL is like July in most of the country.
Congrats on finishing the challenge. Still time to read plenty more books before we start the Fall/Halloween challenge. That's my fav.

Thanks Wendy! Yes, I thought the same about November in Florida, so definitely like summer in my opinion.

I look forward to the next seasonal challenge! I already have a few books in mind.

I counted Evil Whispers for this challenge too. Vacation, warm weather, campground... it ticks the boxes for me!

You can find the ten books I read for the challenge under message 32.
Good luck to everybody who's still in!

Congrats! I hope you discovered some good books. :)

message 166: by Ina (new)

Ina | 55 comments My goal was to read seven books and I did. Here are the books I read:

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires - Grady Hendrix
The Hunted - Gabriel Bergmoser
Camp Murderface - Josh Berk and Saundra Mitchell
The Pallbearers Club - Paul Tremblay
Silence for the Dead - Emily St. James
Camp Sylvania - Julie Murphy
The Turning - Francinc Prost

Three of the books were audiobooks since I mostly buy autumn and winter horror books and didn't have many horror books with summer themes.

Meli (melihooker) | 105 comments My reading suddenly fell off a cliff in August because I was so busy, so I wasn't able to read my 4th book :(
But it was a great challenge and glad I read what I did!
The Troop
The Fisherman
Lights Out

message 168: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 82 comments I aimed for four, and ended up with seven. I knew I had some backlist books to get through that were summery. Here's what I did:

1. We Need To Do Something - Max Booth III (tornadoes!)
2. Dragonfly Summer - JH Moncrieff (it's in the title)
3. The Summer Is Ended and We Are Not Yet Saved - Joey Comeau (slasher set at Bible Camp!)
4. The Lake - R Karl Largent (lakes are summery even if the story is technically on Labor Day)
5. Birthday - Koji Suzuki (my birthday is in June)
6. Camp Damascus - Chuck Tingle (more camp!)
7. Maeve Fly - CJ Leede (set partly at the Happiest Place on Earth)

On to the next!

message 169: by Phil (Theophilus) (new)

Phil (Theophilus) (prattleonboyo) I missed participating in the challenge, but I'm currently reading the perfectly titled story: The Deep Blue Goodbye taking place in the Florida Keys.
