Mike | 28 comments The Moonlit Mind and 77 Shadow Street are both standalone novels. Near as I can tell, the only reason the former might have been listed as a prequel is because it includes a three-chapter excerpt from the latter at the end.

Scott | 9302 comments It says in the description that the short offers "a taste of what's to come" in the novel, so presumably it is a prelude of some kind.

Mike | 28 comments The reviews that mention the two seem to say that the stories are unrelated, other than occurring on the same street geographically (that last fact I only just saw mentioned). The Dean Koontz website and his bibliography on Wikipedia both list them as standalone novel[la]s, which is why I made the suggestion. I did, on the other hand, just find an “ultimate guide” that referred to them as the “77 Shadow Street Books”, so I guess they are considered a package by some, so they should be left as is.

I was looking for a shorter read from Koontz but didn’t want to read the novella first if it would either spoil or be better appreciated after reading the seemingly associated novel. I should have gone ahead and read them to at least confirm how standalone they were myself, before suggesting any “corrections”.

Marking this as done and will delete topic shortly.
