Horace Green Co-Educational Preparatory School is a school for older students, with year groups splitting into four sections:

9th Grade – Freshman Year, starting at 14 to 15 years of age
10th Grade – Sophomore Year, starting at 15 to 16 years of age
11th Grade – Junior Year, starting at 16 to 17 years of age
12th Grade – Senior Year, starting at 17 to 18 years of age.

The school is the best in the state, and considered to be very traditional in their learning techniques. Student's are encouraged to take between five and ten subjects, depending on their year, the difficulty of the subjects and their own personal ability. They offer a wide range of traditional and less tradition subjects, including:

The school uniform is monochrome. All students must wear a white long-sleeved shirt with a black and white tie. Students must wear either a black sweater, black school vest, grey blazer or a combination of the options. They may opt to wear either a skirt (falling to just above the knee) or trousers. School shoes must be smart. Some small piercings (such as one lobe piercing on each ear), neat jewellery (necklaces tucked inside of shirts, one plain bracelet, one plain ring), small amounts of makeup or hair product may also be worn. Overall, students are to look smart to maintain the reputation of the school.

School hours are between the hours of 8:30 and 3:00. Each student will have six periods, which are an hour long each. There is a short morning break at 10:20 and lunch is at 12:30 for 45 minutes. Students work on a five day schedule, which they will maintain throughout the year.

In early 2015, Miss R. Whitenhall had a car accident, resulting in multiple broken bones. As the teacher of Math 4 at Horace Green, the school needed a replacement to substitute the regular teacher for at least a month. After phoning around, the Principle came back with one name- Ned Sncheebly. Phoning up the number, Dewey Finn picks up the phone. Desperate for money, he pretends to be his roommate, and takes the job.

Dewey may have passed his high school classes in math, but other then that, he is clueless. He takes on the class with little idea of what to teach.

After overhearing an orchestra class, Dewey realises that this is what he could teach them: rock. Mathematics 4, like all Math classes at Horace Green is rather unconventional, considering that the classes are split by skill rather then age, giving a mixed set of around twenty students for each class he teaches. Whilst he teaches 4 classes an attempt at math, and allows them to sit around or just do whatever homework they want, he teaches that one skilled set of musicians, artists and technicians the one thing he loves.
