(Subdue) How It All Began by Penelope Lively – 4 Stars

This was a short book showing the impact of an event on different characters, and looking at the consequences of this event for the different characters. The book opens with Charlotte, a seventy-something widow, breaking her hip when she is mugged and needing to move in to live with her daughter for a short time. On the surface, this book was quite a light read, but it actually covered a number of series topics, including life and aging, loosing your independence, and adultery. Some of the characters had much more minor roles, but I really liked the character of Charlotte and her response in different situations
