Alexander Caskie | 13 comments The house can appear anywhere, and is it’s own sealed space. There are like 15 ish swords.

The MC a boy is recruited and saved by the current master of the house who uses I think the 7th sword, he is put through deadly trials and proves his worthiness, but the swords must choose you. The 1st is chained unchoosable because it’s evil and will cause the founder of the house to come back (i think this happens later in the book or series.)

At the end of his training the boy is successful but no swords are yet suitable, so I believe the master, allows him to borrow his, sword number 7.

The other mages in this world can do things like summon elements from fire plans, summon swarms of strange animals from different plains like swarms of purple wasps I believe is how the MCs father dies just before he is saved, the magic is reliant on connecting to another plane.

The house of swords people then have an easier time in killing mages, and were sort of designed for it? The swords can cut through magic.

The House has many different monsters within it, and the swordsmen of the house can take within them the essence of the monsters that they defeat with in the house and use them.

The MC acquires the essence and abilities of some kind of shade, allowing extreme speed and to pass through things I think?

The house itself has a weighty name like the House of Swords or something like that, but I can’t remember it.

Alexander Caskie | 13 comments This book is Fantasy and Adult to Teen, I read it years ago so can’t recall.

The opening scene where he lost his dad who was a normal person and valiantly trying to defend the MC from a mage summoning wasps, I think the mage was either callous or careless, and didn’t even fully attack them, they were a side effect of something they were trying to do.

After witnessing the father’s valiant death I believe the current master of the House says, I ain’t never seen a man die as brave as that.

It is set in the snow I believe, and they were thrown from their cart

Ky | 446 comments Long shot: Fred Saberhagen's The First Book of Swords or another in the series? They were published 1983-1995 and have several volumes.

You can read about the whole series here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Books_o... to see if anything jumps out at you.
