LizRud | 1 comments I read this about two or three years ago on my Kindle. It's an lgbt, enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance between two warriors and a captured enemy soldier from an invading army. It's part of a series. There are kings, knights, and dungeons, but no dragons that I recall.

Characters:

Warrior(1): very trusting, believes that there is good in everyone. He has a long time crush on his best friend, the other warrior. He often volunteers for extra shifts to guard/protect the prisoner who had attempted to kill the king. He manages to convince the king that it would be better to let him take the prisoner away from the castle and back to the warriors home. He lives in a small rustic cabin built near to the second warrior's home.

Warrior (2): He distrusts the prisoner and really dislikes that the prisoner is being mean to the other warrior. He lives in a manor with his young daughter.

Prisoner: special highly skilled fighter haunted by the ghost of his dead younger brother who he killed as a child when he was forcibly trained to become a soldier (sees & talks to the brother, the brother doesn't talk back)(the invading army he was with was the one to train him). Plans to betray/steal from the warriors in order to escape, but breaks down when he discovers there isn't really anything to take from the nice warrior. Long braided hair. Very skilled fighter.

At the start, the other guards leave the door to the prisoner's cell unlocked, so that they could kill him when he attempts to escape, but the warriors find him first and return him to the cell. After that, the warriors are granted permission the king/duke to take him to their homes (he briefly escapes from them during the journey and tries to deceive two other soldiers he meets before getting caught again). I remember there also being a scene about all three picking apples in an orchard.

One of the other couples consists of a king/duke, his second in command & a servant boy (?) who is not a fighter. They adopted the kids of dead soldiers who didn't have any remaining family. The adoptions took place before the start of the book when just the king/duke and his second were together. This trio was later joined by a fourth when their land is invaded. He is a special highly trained fighter from the other side (the invading army).
