thank you so much! Cole is one of my favorite characters ive written so far. He actually has his own short story in my collection coming out next month! We get to see his backstory a little more

Marie | 4028 comments I started this book last night and already a nail-biter! lol :) This is going to be fun! :)

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) (mysteriesandmayhem) | 359 comments I’m at about 45% now and I have to ask - is anybody else picking up any The Shining vibes with what’s going on in Anthony’s head? I’m so impressed with this book. I just wish I had more time to read it straight through. Hopefully I can finish it this weekend. :)

The Shining was one of THE biggest influences on me while writing it. It's my favorite novel of all time, and I think my love for it shines (no pun intended) through.

John Durgin | 33 comments I was so thrilled to wake up today and see the audiobook version of the book sitting at #1 in new releases for Ghost horror!

Monika I finished this great journey. I enjoyed it. I like the connection between crimi and horror which made it real not fabulous. Very intresting plot , good history.

Thanks for joining the group read! I'm glad you enjoyed the book

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) (mysteriesandmayhem) | 359 comments I just finished! It kept getting better as I read. I enjoyed the little twists and turns that were thrown in along the way, as well as the subtle and not so subtle nods to The Shining! On a slight side note, I love D&T Publishing! I’m on their street team and Dawn is awesome.

Congrats on the audiobook doing so well too! And thanks for joining us for this group read. :)

John. Without giving away spoilers, can you tell us a little about how the story came about? Did anything inspire it?

I have always been fascinated with cults, specifically stories that add a supernatural element to them. I've also always loved the thriller aspect of mob related stories. One of my favorite things to do when trying to come up with a unique story idea is take a few things i love that have nothing to do with one another and try to mix them together. Throw in my obsession with The Shining (it's pretty obvious within these pages) and I was off to the races.

Michael Livingston | 7 comments This is another great read, I'm about 90% through so I haven't finished yet, this keeps you at the edge of your seat. It helped me get through a couple of short flights this past week for a family trip. I love the different elements incorporated here, can't wait for more from John Durgin!

Richard Holtz | 1 comments Great read, indeed. As a King fan myself, I couldn’t help but be excited for how vivid and unrelenting John went in writing this book. Sometimes, “going there” or simply crossing the line fine line between fairytale ending and the sorts is what an author needs to do to make it a GREAT book; so glad he didn’t play it safe with some of the twists. The character building was fantastic too! If you like The Shining or even Amityville Horror, read this!! Can’t wait to read more books from him!

Marie | 4028 comments I am up to 74%. Action galore along with tons of tension! Loving this story! :)

Thanks for the kind words Richard! I love it when a book doesn't play it safe. I think it was author Dan Brown that said get the readers an ending they want but do it in a way they won't see coming. That has always stuck with me when I write a story.

Because I wrote this with thrill aspects tied in, I felt it needed to have a fast pace, but grounded in horror.

Marie | 4028 comments I finished the book in the early hours of the morning! What a lot of nail-biting tension with this one! Definitely a five star read from me! :)

Thanks Michael! The tie-in story for Cole in that book was a lot of fun, I actually wrote the short story before the book. It really helped flesh out that character before the novel got started.

Busted out the first 1/3 of this while mowing the lawn (yes, noise cancelling ear buds work wonders), and I didn’t want to get done mowing. It feels like both Anthony and Cole know a thing or two about “offers you can’t refuse.”

i love that trope. And I'd say you're probably right haha

Amanda | 96 comments I finished this a few days ago and really enjoyed it. I loved the characters and the different aspects that John included in the story such as the mob, the lake, and the cult. This is my second book by John and I can't wait to read more.
