May 2023 Group Read with Guest Author, John Durgin
Y'all will love this one! Don't forget to rate and review on Amazon, too! Happy you're joining, John!
This has been on my list since I read The Cursed Among Us! I’m going to try to join for the first time! Can’t wait!
Excited to be here! Thanks for having me. Feel free to ask questions, comment, etc. I’ll be pretty active
Hmmm seems interesting especially since I’m in the process of getting my real estate licensee. I might just read along as well when I finish my current book!
Never done a group read before. Always wanted to participate in one. Don't really know what to expect. But there's a first for everything. And since this book is on my TBR list, so here I am. Welcome John!
John. The first thing that hits you with this book is that awesome cover. Who did the artwork and how much were you involved with the design?
Matt Seff Barnes did the amazing cover. He also did my cover for a the Cursed Among Us as well as the cover for my collection coming out in June called Sleeping In The Fire. The funny thing is I was referred to Matt for the Cursed cover. I went to his website to check his portfolio and loved his work. Coincidentally, one of his premade covers was the one you are looking at for Inside The Devil’s Nest. I fell in love with it and was shocked nobody had snatched it up. I bought it and hired him on the spot for Cursed. So I had this cover before I’d even written a word for the book. I had the rough idea already for the book though and this image was perfect for it
I had the privilege of reading the beta for Inside the Devil's Nest, and let me tell you - y'all are in for a treat. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. I also had the honor of meeting John at the 2023 STC Authorcon, and he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He let me crash his table and everything.
Hi John!
I'm looking forward to this read, this will be my first with this group, I read Cursed Among Us and loved it, when I saw the next few were coming of John's were coming out this year I immediately put them on my list!

I'm definitely looking forward to reading this one. You say he let you crash his table and my hackneyed brain immediately went to an image of someone literally crashing into a table full of books! 😂 If that is what really happened, I'd say he's far nicer than you're even giving him credit for! But I have a feeling my imagination is just getting a bit carried away .... showing myself out of the thread now until next week!!
My copy of Inside the Devil’s Nest arrived today. The cover is pleasantly eerie. Excited to crack it open 😃
Today is the day! Thanks for all taking part in the group read. Feel free to invite friends, family, even your enemies. I’m looking forward to chatting with everyone!
Had to get the Prologue and 1st chapter in before my workout. Good grief, this book wastes no time! Character intro and immediate action. Curious to see if this energy is consistent throughout.
Marie wrote: "I will be here as I have been wanting to read this book! :) Welcome John! :)"I can't wait to hear your thoughts after you read The Cursed Among Us last month! They definitely have different tones to them. This story is a bit darker

Great to have you! Hope you enjoy the book
I hope it's ok for me to mention this here. For anyone looking to join the group read, if you enjoy grabbing signed copies from authors, I have 16 copies left on my online shop! Also, the audiobook is done and awaiting approval from Audible, it should be live within the next few days hopefully. Joe Hempel narrated it and did an incredible job. Started while my son was at soccer practice, hits the ground running! Made it through Chapter 4 not sure who the family should be more afraid of!

Christine wrote: "Had to get the Prologue and 1st chapter in before my workout. Good grief, this book wastes no time! Character intro and immediate action. I think its fun to get to know the personalities of the characters with sh*t already hitting the fan haha
Paul (Stephen King's version) wrote: "Read it in a day thought it was a really good story john"glad you enjoyed it Paul! It definitely had a different tone than The Cursed Among Us
Christine wrote: "Had to get the Prologue and 1st chapter in before my workout. Good grief, this book wastes no time! Character intro and immediate action. Curious to see if this energy is consistent throughout."Agreed - I was able to read the prologue and chapter 1 on my lunch break today. Wow. The life of a real estate agent isn't easy! I know because I've worked with them in both residential and commercial real estate companies for the past couple of decades. I think you hit Anthony's busy-ness right on target! 😂 The suspense was intense as well. I can't wait to see what follows.
I picked this to start my May reading and just finished. It definitely kept me on edge until the very end and I loved every minute of it. Thanks for joining us, John! I look forward to checking out more of your work.
Just read the 1st paragraph of chapter 19. I have a guess as to what unfolds. I'm gonna write it down and see what happens 😱.

Fantastic book! Super fast paced, doesn't waste any time getting to the good stuff, and characters I really started caring about. The character development was *MUAH* Chef's Kiss! Definitely looking forward to reading more from you John!

I finished it! Wow, what a ride, what a story! This held my interest the entire way. This story did not fail my expectations at all.The character elements were well thought out and contributed so well to their actions as the story unfolded. The gruesome factor was spot on for this horror as well as the ambiance of the pond and it’s inhabitants are so wonderfully eerie. You had me with that little red herring at chapter 19 and I appreciated the twist, again that character development by proxy (Cole). Thank you for our developed hero which I think was so bittersweet.
I look forward to your future productions. I applauded you, and cheers!
