Thoughts:
I jumped ahead in my re-read of the series for one I haven't read yet (and one published in May!). This story found us back in Port Henry, a community where the "vampires" (who prefer the term "immortals" are fairly widely outed.
Drina, an enforcer from Spain, is helping protect a young woman (also a vampire) from a rogue, but matchmaking-Marguerite has sent her there to find her lifemate. That would be Harper...who believes that he had found his lifemate a year and a half ago, and then she died in the turning. He's not very accepting of a "replacement" so quickly, so Drina keeps it very secret at first. Then, she very firmly stands up for herself and their possible relationship when Harper and his angst/guilt threaten to derail it.
There's a bit of mystery, a bit of danger, and lots of fun, funny and smexy scenes. I'm happy to have picked up this series again!

Thoughts:
Marguerite Argeneau, matchmaker extraordinaire, finds a likely lifemate candidate for her son...that she had lost for 500 years, while on her honeymoon.
So, she arranges for Christian (son) and his band to come to the resort, and finds ways to throw them together. Carolyn Connor is almost divorced after a very awful marriage, and too mature to be lusting after young (or very young appearing) men. Christian's parents and bandmates do all they can to help...though it certainly shocked him that there "help" would portray him as a closet gay needing Carolyn's help as his fake romantic interest.
There is quite a lot of havoc, lust and quirky humor in this installment of the Argeaneaus and it was a really fun read and refreshingly different story. This type of series could easily become stale, but each story had enough twists, turns and unique characters that it remains fun. One also wonders what the author will throw at the characters next.
On to the next one!
You did! I'm just about to start my last lesson of the day (it's from 8 p.m.). I'm always up round now, but rarely have the free time to pop into my fun places online so early...Nice to bump into each other when we're both on!

Thoughts:
This is the first book in Rebecca Zanetti's Deep Ops series. I've read her Dark Protectors series and enjoyed that, so came in expecting to enjoy this. Then I started reading and wasn't sure if I'd like it or not...quite a bit of tension, seeing things about to go crazy mix-up due to honesty and trust issues...however, it all came together nicely and believably for how the characters had been developing.
Pippa is on the run from the cult she grew up in...the one her mother decided to join and brought her daughter. The cult leader has a bit of a fixation on Pippa...not something Pippa welcomes. So, she's hidden away and trying to stay off the cult's radar.
Then her new neighbor shows up, ex-cop Malcom West. He's a big, scary, panic-inducing guy. Literally...Pippa had a panic attack watching him move in. Inauspicious start, however they gradually develop a type of relationship, but thn West gets dragged into an undercover operation centered on the cult and it's rrumored plans for domestic terrorism.
There's nothing paranormal beyond highly developed instincts, but it is a good read and I'm looking forward to reading more about the other team members.

Review:
This book finds our MC - Mia Malone - moving back to her hometown and opening a new business after a breakup. She encounters lots of obstacles with her first client and is found dead on the day of the party. Throw in the twists that the client was her grandmothers best friend and the town's rude/wealthy/unliked socialite.
Mia is kitchen witch, who rarely uses her powers, but will moving back home change that? Lots of twists and things going on with her and the other characters.
Shout out to Mr. Darcy - he is Mia's cat who can communicate with Mia. He's lots of fun!
Cozy mysteries are not my go to reads. But I do like a good paranormal / witchy read. I enjoyed this book; it was a quick and fun read.

This was an okay read, nothing too exciting. It seems that Joy's magic was just a side note as it wasn't very much integrated in the story. I still enjoyed the mystery and how Joy resolved everything.
There were some very snarky/mean characters that gave the others a bit of problem in all areas! It was a quick read and I'll problaby finish the series.

Thoughts:
Finding a book was a bit of a challenge...I have many favorite authors/series in this category and am mostly caught up (or there's a 5-600 page volume next in line!)
So, as I really enjoyed last week's mystery shelf, I dipped into this one found on the SOS shelf.
The explanation is:
Sugar Maple looks like any Vermont town, but it's inhabited with warlocks, sprites, vampires, witches and an ancient secret. And Chloe Hobbs, owner of Sticks & String, a popular knitting shop, has a big secret too. She's a sorcerer's daughter in search of Mr. Right and she's found him in Luke MacKenzie, a cop investigating Sugar Maple's very first murder. Bad news is he's 100% human, which could spell disaster for a normal future with a paranormal woman like her.
The MC, Chloe, has a passion for yarn and knitting, and despite her paranormal address, is a very down-to-earth type of person. I enjoyed her sense of humor and worldview, and found the whole background situation of the story interesting. She needs to solve the murder mystery to protect the town's secrets (its "other" population) and the recent addition of a police officer to investigate that murder puts her, and the town, at risk. She is also under pressure to marry and carry on family line in order to renew the town's protections.
There's humor, miscommunication, scary paranormals, fun & funny best friends, a bit of romance and the mystery itself. This added up to a quick, fun read for me, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

Review:
Necromancers, Vampires, Master Vampires, lycanthrope, Giant Snake Shifters and something unknown or ancient....there's a bit of everything in this book!
This book was full of action right from the start and ended in a show down on Halloween at the Circus of the Damned - was it real or illusion?!
Anita is juggling her personal life with her work life and she learns somethings about herself and her powers. She is trying to date Richard, who seems to be hiding something, but doesn't want her risking her life for her job. That doesn't sound like it's gonna end well!
The mystery of who hired Edward to kill Jean-Claude and the introduction of new master vampires and what they want with Anita is the focus of the story. No more talk about the story - I don't want to give away any spoilers!!
I didn't care for Richard at the start, but he redeemed himself. I'm still not sure about Jean-Claude, but I think that is how we are meant to feel about him!
Maybe it won't take me so long to pick up book #4!

Review:
This edition to the series doesn't seem to have many elements of Steampunk (but I'm not a big reader of the genre, so maybe I'm just not aware of them!). Even though this isn't one of my go-to genres, both books were very much enjoyed!
The word in this series is dark, dangerous and oh so intriguing! The main characters in this book were Lena and Will, who we were introduced to in the first book. They are now trying to find their places in the world - Will wanting to overcome his reputation as the "Beast of Whitechapel" and Lena believing that she has no real options other than to become a thrall for the elite.
The two engage in a game of cat and mouse that builds in intensity throughout the book and ends in an explosive conclusion - with quite a twist! (Both for their relationship and their positions in the city.)
Lots of action and twists. 4 solid stars!
I've finished my B book, review later today! Apologies for the delay.Statistically, the winning shelf should be coming very soon...let's get our reviews in quickly so we can get our stamps!

Thoughts:
For last week's shelf, I picked up the first in this series. I enjoyed the quirkiness and variations on hiding in plain site...and am hoping for Chloe's HEA.
Well, the HEA seemed to be on track...but she gave Luke a handmade sweater...and cue bad things happening all over the place. Biggest bad, finding out Luke had a daughter and finding out his daughter had died at the same time...from Luke's ex-wife who showed up at a rather inopportune time for Chloe and the town.
Ups and downs with magic and curses and secrets continue to the end. With a sigh of relief, we see our MC head home happily, then, CLIFFHANGER. Eep.
I will be reading the next, even though I kind of strongly dislike the cliffhangers (less of a problem if the next in series is already published....)

Review:
Another great Time Police / St. Mary's adventure with lots of surprises, shocks and of course shenanigans!!
Team Weird - Matthew, Jane and Luke - are in a bit of a pickle in this book. They have split up and secrets and backstories come to light. The team's future might be at risk....
There are actually 3 separate missions happening simuletaneously and there is a LOT going on!!
I loved that (view spoiler)
I loved the St. Mary's series by Jodi Taylor and this spin-off series is also great. For me any book by Jodi Taylor is a must read and I always wonder "why did I wait so long to read this?!?"["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Book: Grave Witch by Kalayna Price
Series: Alex Craft #1
Finished: 5.5.23
Pages, Rating, Review:
325 pgs, 🌟🌟/5🌟
Price is a new author for me and i was really excited about this book. it was good at first, gave you great info on the MFC, Alex and her strengths, powers, etc. But as the book went on, i lost interest. i was expecting there to be more romance, it has a romance genre label and i tend to like a lot of romance in my books. this is a great book for readers who like slow burn books or very little romance. i do recommend people read this book.
