#2 has been queued for more than 24 hours now, most likely due to having more than 10,000 shelves. I'll check again tomorrow to see if it is done.
If the merge is incomplete, there are user shelvings still attached to the invisible, queued edition. I strongly recommend sending any incomplete mergers to Support, as the incomplete state affect users' bookshelves sort and search capabilities.
What can staff do about it? I did send a previous case to support and staff just went away and combined it immediatly.
They can re-queue it so that the merge can be completed. If you can find the edit page of the duplicate (not the target), you can toggle the classification back to 'Public', and then to 'Delete' again to requeue it yourself.
Thanks, I did not know that is possible (or required), and I will certainly do that myself next time. I already send support a few dozen requests a day, I would rather not bother them with things we can do ourselves.
