I remember the main plot was that there was someone going around kidnapping and murdering theatre girls and the main character was made to perform on a trapeze so she could view the crowd and see if she could spot anyone behaving strangely.

Her best friend was a boy who got half his face burnt in a theatre accident and her grandmother was an opiate smoking crime boss (who she took over from in the subsequent book).

In the subsequent book she also buried alive her other friends partner in a vault in a church in front of other crime bosses and started smoking opiate pipes to cope with the guilt.

In the first book I remember the murderer has a weird obsession with a certain gold paint
