We had a fantastic conversation on-air today with the author of "Like, Literally, Dude: Arguing for the Good in Bad English."

I've never seen 1A's inbox so flooded with listener comments! People had a lot to say about the speaking habits they notice in others that bother them - not quite as much to say about habits they like.

The audio will be up soon here: https://the1a.org/segments/arguing-fo...

Take a listen and let us know your thoughts!

Carmen | 3 comments I was listening to this live and unfortunately had to go so I missed the tail end of the conversation and am glad you liked it because it reminded me to finish listening.

The main thing I thought about when listening to this was a lot of the language policing feels like a sort of gate keeping. It's a way of judging people's intelligence or schooling based on their grammar uses and viewing it that way feels limiting. I loved the discussion on using words to indicate a pause in conversation and I also loved learning how err in british lit is actually pronounced because whenever I read it I thought why are they saying err? Is it short for error? Now, I know. Thanks 1A for expanding my knowledge.
