"Final Version" by John Morressy maybe? It was the answer here: https://scifi.stackexchange.com/quest...
I remember a short story about god attempting to oust this Adam & Eve. But Adam refused to be thrown out of his home. He took up a sword and challenged god to try it. God was very impressed with Adam's fortitude and embraced him with the sentiment that he had indeed found someone he could treat as an equal. Is this the same story?

The only two passing the test were those taking in that knowledge without being ashamed ending with something like, “now I have a being that can become my equal”
This is entirely paraphrased, I was young reading it, I wish I could find again, will look now that I’ve unpacked that folder, it’s been compressed in my brain a few decades
