Kim Watt & a Melee of Readers (Appreciation Society)
I am currently reading The Tales of Beaufort Scales, the free short story collection available from Watt's website. These are fun stories, I like seeing more of the relationships among the dragons. I've read Baking Bad, but none of the other full length books in this series.I've read the first three in the Gobbelino London series. Plus there was at least one Gobs-related short in The Cat Did It: 8 short tales of troublesome felines collection (which was also free). *edited, more like Gobs-adjacent, characters from one of the Gobbelino books.
I love Gobbelino, his human and Green Snake! When I read Beaufort Scales, my mind insisted on hearing Beaufort's voice as John Cleese. I enjoyed the book, but I still prefer Gobs.
Just finished Gobbelino London & A Contagion of Zombies and it's just as awesome as the first book in the series. Definitely plan on reading the rest, but I'm going to spread them out a bit. And that short story collection looks really good.I'm happy that Kim M. Watt is such a prolific writer!

I lean towards Gobbelino as well. Probably because I'm such a cat person. But, reading the Beaufort short stories is warming me more towards the dragons and seeing how those books would definitely be good mood reading, for lighter/cozy stories with a lot of heart. Lately, I've been intentionally reading a lot of more cozy type books for reasons.
Meredith wrote: "... Lately, I've been intentionally reading a lot of more cozy type books for reasons."I've been leaning hard on cozy too because, well, yeah. I'm not so much into cats but could see the right dragons working. I'd thought that the titles for the cozy canine mysteries that my spouse prefers were noteworthy, but these... Thanks for the pointer to them.
Thank you Meredith, for setting this up.If you have gotten into the Beaufort Scales, be sure to read
What Happened in London for a serious insight to DI Adams. The book is actually a prequel, but fits nicely wherever you are in the Beaufort series.
Just had a thought, Meredith. Should you send this link to Kim Watt and let her know what is going on? She might like to access the comments. Maybe ask her to name the thread?
Eric wrote: "Just had a thought, Meredith. Should you send this link to Kim Watt and let her know what is going on? She might like to access the comments. This is a reader space, for readers to discuss amongst themselves, not a space to interact with authors :)
No toes! I just (again, personally, this is not an official mod stance) feel strongly that if authors and readers want to interact, they will contact each other. Many authors don't want to read reviews for example. and many reviewers don't like it if authors comment on their reviews. So keeping this as a safe space for readers to chat is best, and if we want author interaction, we can have a separate Q&A thread :)

In the vein of hating the books... (kidding!)However, the Gobbelino books are kind of formulaic. They're hanging out, doing mostly nothing when for Some Reason they get pulled into A Case. What makes the books good is that the case is a lot of fun, it's got twists and surprises and manages to have suspense even though you know things will be OK in the end. And they're well written. Sometimes, that's precisely what I want,

Already downloaded the 8 cat short stories, and it looks like some of them are connected to the dragon series.
I think I have to read one of these because I love the name Gobbelino. I googled and checked linkedin just to make sure that it wasn’t a “real” name that I was associating with/to.It’s like “smorgasbord”. Another word that makes me happy.

Excellent reasoning, Liane 😺
For fun, Kim Watt, places a zinger or two in her copyright statements. You readers may want to take a gander at the copyright pages.

Meredith wrote: "I think I'll read a couple more to see more of DI Adams before I read it, though there were hints about her past even in Baking Bad."Probably not a bad idea to wait on What Happened in London. I had read three books of the series before I discovered that publication. I am now on book five, A Toot Hansell Christmas Cracker, which consists of twelve short stories. Fun!

Yes, Watt does some good titles. I've definitely read my fair share of mysteries that I picked up solely because of a good title.
Completed A Toot Hansell Christmas Cracker
. Twelve whimsical short stories of Christmas tidings in Toot Hansell, with recipes for the many baked goods. The "folk" are in high spirits much to the vexation of the women of the Toot Hansell Women's Institute. Nothing serious here. Just fun.

Meredith wrote: "I think I will try to time that for a Christmas-time read, or maybe a Christmas-in-July read."I've been alternating Kim Watt with more serious reads. "Christmas Cracker" just fell into the rhythm.
Ozsaur wrote: "I hope I remember A Toot Hansell Christmas Cracker when the holidays come around..."Me, too!
Kim Watt did a cover reveal for the next Gobbelino book in her e-newsletter. She says the book, "Gobbelino London and a Menace of Mermaids," (not yet in GR) is coming out next month but didn't have a date yet.
I completed Coming Up Roses - A Cozy Mystery (with dragons): A Beaufort Scales Mystery, Book 6
. A bit more serious mystery from Kim Watt, but still filled with humor, reflections and zany antics.
Gobbelino London and a Menace of Mermaids is up for pre-order in the kindle store for $3.99! It's coming out May 19th 😃
Michelle wrote: "Gobbelino London and a Menace of Mermaids is up for pre-order in the kindle store for $3.99! It's coming out May 19th 😃"Thanks for the heads up. I've only one more Beaufort Scales to read.

Finished
Beast-Laid Plans - a cozy mystery with dragons. Another whimsical four star read by humorous Watt with some uncanny characters. The seventh in the series and last currently released. Watt says another is on the way. Fun, light reading.
I finished Gobbelino London and a Menace of Mermaids and it was so much fun! According to her Author Note, there's to be one more in the series, (bummer!), and it will be out this year.
Eric wrote: "@Michele: Mermaids are on my Kindle. Watt provides fun breaks between more serious reads."She does!
Completed,
Gobbelino London and a Menace of Mermaids. Another four star, whimsical romp by Kim M. Watt. This time, down to the sea we go. According to Watt, this tale will be followed shortly by the final book seven. The more improbable Watt becomes, the more normal are her imaginative fantasies.
BTW, Watt now suggests reading all the books in the series before finalizing things with book seven. Her tales with "Gob" have been somewhat stand alone until now. Characters, however, carry over from one to the next.
I'm reading Gobbelino London & a Melee of Mages and happy to be back in Gobs' world. Also happy to see Green Snake being more active in the adventure.
Meredith wrote: "I'm reading Gobbelino London & a Melee of Mages and happy to be back in Gobs' world. Also happy to see Green Snake being more active in the adventure."I have decided that I really love Green Snake :)
Michelle wrote: "Did everyone receive her newsletter? There's an option to vote for the title of the last book."She did this with a previous book as well. I think it was the Werewolves one.
Eric wrote: "Be sure to read Watt's short story about Green Snake. A free download from her web site."
Yes, I saw that. Looking forward to it!
Funny, I signed up for Watt's newsletter, but have never seen one. Signed up with some free short story downloads. Hmmmmm....
Just finished
Oddly Enough: Tales of the Unordinary, volume one. A collection of short stories by Kim M. Watt. Insight to her often convoluted mind. Bizarre, whimsical, flighty, but as Watt says, we often do not know how a story gets started and likewise how it ends.Beware the Sock Monster and the Sexy Armor.
Fun with a bit of the Twilight Zone tossed in.
Kim Watt's most recent email newsletter says the release date for the next and apparently last* Gobbelino book is next Friday, July 28. It's called Gobbelino London & a Collision of Catastrophes.*I say "apparently last" because in a previous newsletter Watt said it was the last "for now" so there may be some more Gobbelino in the future.
I am only up to Gobbelino London & a Worry of Weres in my reading of the series.
Here's what she said (7/16 newsletter): "Two weeks until their final adventure.* "
and then at the bottom of the newsletter:
" *well, 'final'. I have far too much fun writing Gobs, and we all know that the odds of him staying out of trouble are pretty astronomically low. So ... final in this series, let's say. For now, anyway."
