Andrei | 5 comments I read this book somewhere between 2010 and 2015. The book follows several people, but I believe the protagonists are a married couple, with one of them being a scientist who studies tribes in the jungle (Amazon?). She experiences trances while dealing with the tribe's shaman. This scientist later almost dies and has to climb a metaphorical mountain to survive and ends up "evolving" into a superior human with heightened senses and reflexes (this should be the wife). The husband has a separate story, but I remember him also becoming this evolved human when they will be escaping from an underground bunker facility. This evolution will be triggered by her almost leaving him behind. His evolved state makes him feel like a hunter.
Besides those two, we have a couple of surfers who drown, because the water changes its physical properties and the people can't swim in it anymore (they lose buoyancy). There is also a character who travels across states to get to his friend, but the latter gets eaten by his dog because domestic animals turn savage.
There was a moment, where a kid dies because he ate an apple from the neighbor's tree, as he did it usually, but the apples on this tree are poisonous now.
Also, the underground mega bunker has an entry point where you need to go through a series of rooms and pools with chemicals that destroy all microorganisms inside your body (those turned on humans as well) and the entire facility is on super suspensions to survive the huge earthquakes that happen on the surface. And the people inside of it actually go mad and divide into those who can live without light and normal people (but those are converting to mad by the minute).

Andrei | 5 comments Oh yeah, the name of the book might be one word something along the lines of "Terror" or "Hatred".

Andrei, who do the couple work for? Where do they live/ country?

Is this book written for adults or teens?

Also, I believe they both work as researchers for the US government and most of the action happens in the US. The female scientist travels to the Amazon to do research on some tribes.
The book is for young adults.
