totally off topic -- just a lot of random stuff

Holy crap! I was just shopping for a little one in our family who is into American Girl dolls -- they start at like $150 and I've seen them as high as $300+.
Is it me, or is that just nuts???

Yuch!
Is the new font bothering anyone else here? It's making me crazy! It's normal on my iPad, but on the laptop it's just awful.

that's disgusting. Seriously disgusting. You have to wonder where they came from.

Eeek! Can you imagine opening a book and having an insect coming out? I'd probably scream. I hate bugs.

That is awful, really. Not only did it ruin your library, but it ruined a lot of books as well and opportunities to read for people who can't afford to buy books otherwise. That really makes me sad.

I have to do that. I have so many that are out of place and some I can't find.

If anyone using Chrome as their browser wants a workaround to the crappy font issue, let me know. I have mine under control.

I did too. Sadly, I think that now my mother-in-law thinks I do absolutely nothing but read books all day.

We recently saw him in some show on TV (evidently forgettable since I can't remember what it was) and my husband yells, "That's Nick Nolte?"

I certainly didn't at all mean any offense by throwing out Prince of Tides in my comment -- it was just an example of how very different my reading taste is than my mother-in-law's.

Who's seen the 1960s tv show The Avengers, with Diana Rigg? I got the Mrs. Peel megapack DVDs for Christmas from my son and we just watched the first episode after a very long and trying day. This is amazing, considering it was made in 1965.

I've seen one rerun before this and I loved it. This is kind of cool in a bizarre sort of way. Very spy-pulpy.

It's a lot of fun. We made it through three episodes last night.

Where are you sending it?
Where are you sending it?

Haven't done it lately, but it wasn't cheap. I think mine was going to Spain or somewhere like that.
I used to do it all of the time, until one day when sending a book to Finland, I discovered that it would be way cheaper for me to buy a copy at Book Depository (which ships pretty much everywhere for free) for the person to whom I was sending the book. Once I figured that out, I've limited myself to sending within the US.

Bad Memories
I am having another giveaway for 4 signed copies of my second book A Kiss Before Strangling which will run till 2/16/16, the link will self post to enter.
I can appreciate you wanting to get the word out, Douglas, but please, this is not the place. Thanks!

I have absolutely no clue, but the people in customer service are very helpful, so you may want to get in touch with them.

I thought Rita Mae Brown's "Mrs. Murphy" series was excellent for a long time. Entertaining with an array of engaging characters and some 'talking' pets that help solve crimes. Really fun books.
Then, the last few books seemed like political diatribes disguised as fiction - with a lot of my favorite characters gone. Not fun reading anymore.
Yes, Barbara. Fox Tracks really had strong political overtones. It's sad because some of the characters were really spot on and the description of Virginia hunt country was terrific too but if I want political diatribes there is always the news.

at least you have a bookfest. I've lived here 10 years in July, and only once did any authors of note come here. There is the Miami book fair every year, but driving there is just hazardous.

I LOVE Savannah (just not in the summer, -- we were there one year when the heat index was 120) so I may do that. The 95 drive is definitely dull but doable if I bypass Jacksonville.

Ha ha ha. I wouldn't like to be the author of the book that received that review! "
Clarissa is actually a 1,500 page epistolary brick written in 1748. I loved the BBC adaptation and it has been on my 'to read before I die' pile ever since.
But the language, letter-writing style and sheer quantity of prose make it a challenge for most people.
If I was able to forget reality my wishlist would include a gift of the time to read Clarissa undisturbed.
