Jan - the ad said that there would be 60,000 items, and there was everything from hard backs, paper backs, kids' activity books, DVDs, LPs, saw boxes of cassettes, too! They had a little drive thru/pick up lane so people could run back to their cars and come get their stuffed bags...

I used to go to Sacramento County Library's Annual book sale. It was HUGE. Like a warehouse sized sale. They now split it to 3 smaller sales a year.... But I cannot be buying ANY MORE. My collection at one point was over 400 books. I know this because my inventory is here on GR. I did a purge and am down to 300?
My book collecting just got out of hand with the thrift stores, used book stores, charity rummage sales, library book sales and garage sales.
If I had my own place, I would have my spare room as a library.
When I DO buy, I actually have a book list on my GR phone App of books I am still looking for....
30 minutes? HA
it seems that most of the major publishers have some form of this new model planned for the libraries - it's sad.https://mashable.com/article/macmilla...
What? Does every body's library have their sale on the same weekend? Ours had theirs this weekend as well!
In the spirit of being off topic, I offer up this, based on a comment in the SPAM thread: spam phone call flavors. The most current flavors that I've been blessed with include:
1. The Chinese lady (no idea what the pitch is for).
2. The Chinese man (no idea what the pitch is for, and far less frequent than the Chinese lady).
3. The last chance for a new screening test that I am eligible for by my health coverage plan (I've had about 3-4 weeks of last chances, 5 times a week, she does appear to have 2 days off a week in which she doesn't place the robo call, and calls are usually between 950-1010am PT).
4. The IRS has suspended my social security number
5. The Marriott hotel something-or-other.
6. The newest one, started yesterday - my cell phone calling my cell phone (based on caller ID....).
Got some favorites? Do the spam calls differ regionally perhaps?
Oh. And the live voice spam calls to my work numbers....Twice I've sadly informed the caller that I am no longer employed by Company X.....The first one stuttered an apology, I caused her to fall off her script. The second one said, "Well, GREAT Have a nice day!"....
Our favorite is the "your car warranty has expired" call. We play with them mercilessly, letting the call get to a human and the first question they ask is what type of car we own. My husband has said things like "a 2058 starship cruiser" or a "Millenium falcon" only to get hung up on. I on the other hand told the person I wanted to talk to the lady who had originally been the voice on the call (Stacy), because her voice was really hot and turned me on. The guy says "why are you doing this to me," and I said "why are you calling my house with these (expletive deleted) fake calls?"

Those you have to read in order. They do build on the previous ones in a big way.

One of mine is the Income Tax threat that I've filed incorrectly and they've filed charges against me.. Yup.. and today I had one of those sort of creepy ones. I answer the phone, say hello, say hello again.... then after a pause a woman's voice says "Good-bye"... kind of freaks me out.. lol
My mom and I groan about those. No government agency will EVER call you. They will send a registered letter. Also, the one where they say there's something wrong with your Windows and they can fix it remotely.... yeah, right.

Exactly. Just provide us the details of your pc and we'll fix it.. No thanks. I fairly regularly get calls purporting to be from my credit card company (often not identifying which one) saying that my card seems to have illegal charges made against it. I've hung up and checked with my credit card company and they tell me that's not how they do things, especially calling at 6 or 7 in the morning... grrrrr...
I keep getting calls telling me I'm entitled to a new lower credit card interest rate (as low as 0%!). Don't tell me, just do it!I also get ones offering me a new lower rate on my student loans. Um...I graduated 45 years ago with my education fully paid off.
The callers offering me extended warranties on my vehicles hang up when I tell them I really need one since my cars are 25 and 15 years old respectively.
A sneaky one I get is a call from our local electrical company that really is from someone trying to get me to buy my electricity from another power company.
I can honestly say that since we've messed with the heads of the car warranty people, we haven't been bothered since. True statement.
LOL...thanks for sharing.....I have gotten in the habit of not answering unless I know who it is...If they honestly want me, they'll leave a message. Oh wait. The days of waiting until live voice answers is gone, they automatically start talking so I get some half-messages.
Last night did set a new record....Three calls from the same number and the last one was almost 9pm local time. Most of the time the robo callers are in bed by then (or at least not calling!).
A woman I know in OH also gets the Chinese lady. She said she's had another variety from angry people accusing her of calling them....Her number must be spoofed as the source of the call!
I get a big laugh out of picking up my home phone and seeing the number calling me is my home phone.

1 I get the Chinese Lady - but it is not even a real person, so I cannot give my phone to my Mandarin speaking co-worker who would curse her for me. (Curse as in caste a curse not swear).
2 I get the health or dental insurance calls
3. I accidentally gave out my # online 1x for some free game coins. For the past 2 years, I get robo called at least once a week, sometimes daily. I blocked it years ago, but still get a ring or two before it hangs up.
4. I also get calls telling me I'm entitled to a new lower credit card interest rate and other calls regarding an increased credit limit. I got so many, I called my CC Co to confirm. Ironically, I JUST got a letter informing me of my limit going up.
I rarely answer the phone anymore unless they are identified. If it shows the local area code I will, because the hospital and drs. don't use an identified number to contact me.Although I did about a month ago. Someone alleged they were calling on behalf of a charity for veterans, turns out it was actually a PAC. Was glad I told them to send me something so I could send them a check. They sounded fishy, so I checked them out. They were not on Better Business Bureau's good list. So watch out for US Veterans' Assistance Foundation.
IRS will NEVER make their first contact by telephone, as a former employee.

Edit: And your Credit Card people will never contact you via phone regarding INCREASING your CREDIT LIMIT either. Sorry for the miscommunication.
I also got a scam email regarding Amazon.
We always scan our calls. Between politics, contributions, sales, and scams... it's not worth our while. Plus we like to hear how our callerID is going to pronounce a certain town or city. It's hilarious some days!

Not true. I have been contacted by the credit card company - twice. Once when I had a charge from China and another when checks were written for extravagant amounts. Neither one was me and they sent me a new card each time.
Recently, we've had a couple calls, too, from CC companies (where we don't even have credit cards) asking if we'd opened business accounts with them.

I get calls on my cell from "social security admin" telling me that the "drug enforcement admin" is investigating me....lol they tell me to stay on the phone for important info - yeah right....i'm gone. as if the SSA would be involved with a DEA and would tell me in advance without law enforcement involvement if this was real.

Maybe they should stop scamming and go into fiction writing.
Wonder what the next one will be. I had 2-3 nights with the last call being just before 9pm local time.
And then yesterday the same number called 3 times within an hour. Must have had a date and had to get the required 3 out of the way maybe?
I've gotten a few Money Tree Lending calls to my work VOIP line...and our software records the message for playback... :-)
