The number one rule for storytelling is that a character (usually the main character) must undergo a change from the beginning of the book to the end of the book. Think of one of the books you have read since we began our independent reading unit. Explain how a character changed over the course of the book and analyze whether that change was for the better or worse. Note: this does not need to be the main character of your book.

Your response should be 7-10 sentences in length and should cite specific (BS!) moments in the book to illustrate that you read for deeper meaning.

William Blanchard | 3 comments In Lockdown, Alex Sawyer is the main character. He was this bully and a thief in the beginning, but he realizes how bad he actually was. He did some bad things, but he was framed for murdering his friend, and was put into the Furnace. The Furnace is basically a prison that's further down and worse than Hell. It really changes him, from a bully and a thief to the exact opposite. He's afraid he will be the person getting bullied. The place is crazy and the people that "run" the place are mutated and have superhuman powers. They are very strong and are very fast. This book is very interesting as it goes, and I have definitely seen how Alex has changed throughout the book so far.

Hannah | 2 comments In the book, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock changes as he realizes that he is a vulnerable person that wants help with life. Watson, his dearest friend hangs out with him and keeps Holmes from going on wild tangents. Once he met a certain girl named Irene he doesn't think anything of her. While she is aw-inspiring he just want her to notice him as being "better" than her at investigating. Watson notices this and he wants Holmes to be happy without him there and while he is gone. Holmes goes from a pompous know-it-all to a caring human being.

Noah | 2 comments In the book "Fearless" the main character Adam Brown undergoes change for the better. He starts his life as a good young kid who liked to play with his neighbors. In high school, he gets into drugs, and starts having breakdowns. He was arrested on more than one occasion and he felt he let his parents down. He saw a video about Navy SEALs, and decided he wanted to become one. He met a girl after he joined the Navy, and started having relapses. Once his son was born he finally quit doing drugs. On his last tour in Afghanistan, he was killed doing a raid on a village at night. He impacted everyone that he had come in contact with in the Navy, and was mourned by all of them. When he quit doing drugs, people respected him a lot more. So he underwent a change for the better.

Emily | 3 comments In the book "Burned" by Ellen Hopkins, Aunt Jeanette changed a lot. She started off a good woman, shown by the fact that she took in a niece she really didn't know. She was sad and lonely as she had lost the love of her life due to her brother. Over time, with the help of Pattyn (her niece), she reconnects with the love of her life, and gains a great connection with her niece. She changed for the better because now she is not as lonely and private as she used to be, I would even say she is finally happy.

Anthony Chase | 3 comments In the book, The Haunted Soccer Field by T.J. Edwards, there are many changes amongst the characters. The main change is from one of the main characters Bryan. At the beginning, he does not seem to believe in the ghosts roaming around the field. Throughout the story he realizes something fishy is going on and near the end, he finds out actual ghosts exists. It turns out not to be a ghost, but 2 other characters I don't want to spoil. Also, his attitude while playing goalie goes from being nervous (at the beginning), to having a lot of confidence in goal (at the end). It helped him learn the pressure of being in the net. This is how Bryan changes throughout the story The Haunted Soccer Field.

Llayna Charest | 3 comments In the anonymously written novel "Go Ask Alice," the unnamed main character changes quite a bit. It isn't so noticeable in the beginning, but once she moves towns and slowly gets into drugs, the changes are significant. Getting to know the character, she seemed a lot like me. A good girl who thinks she knows right from wrong. But her character changed a lot when she left home for the first time and opened a store. She loved her family so much, it was unbelievable to read that she left them without so much as a note. She got sober a few times, but always relapsed into a dark, drug infested world. The middle of the book, she was in a very dark place. She was living on the streets, barely getting by. She ended up contacting her parents again, which was a relief because she seemed more herself. In the end, it was very eery how suddenly things turned. She was in such a good place, she was happy and on top of the world. The next page stopped short and said she overdosed and died. In conclusion, the changes throughout "Go Ask Alice" are constant, and hard to keep up with.

Will | 2 comments At the beginning of the book Amy was just a friend and acted that way towards Kevin. She had a boyfriend and was focused on her boyfriend and her writing. Then as the book goes on she begins to reveal more and more information to Kevin about her boyfriend and how their relationship is going. As they go back and forth writing e-mails to each other she starts to open up to Kevin and ask questions about his relationship and other events going on in his life. Then her boyfriend breaks up with her. She is devastated. So, she turns to Kevin for help. She asks to go to the movies, she wants to see a movie about a subject that she is writing about. She says it is "strictly for research". But, Kevin thinks otherwise.

Andy | 3 comments In my book, Dead in the Cellar, by Connie Feddersen, Amanda Hazard, the protagonist of the book, goes through a significant change. One of the changes is that she starts figuring out how the crime (a person found dead in a cellar) was committed. One day, there was a fire at Elmer Jolly's house (the person who was murdered), and while she was interviewing some relatives of Mr. Jolly, she suspects that one of Elmer's three brothers could have done it, even though she has not found the will yet to figure out who could benefit from Elmer's death. Although that has not happened, Amanda is still able to get critical information and leads to help close the case of Elmer Jolly's death. All in all, Amanda Hazard has developed remarkable crime solving skills for the benefit of the whole town of Vamoose.

Nora Susi | 3 comments In Trinkets by Kirsten Smith, one of the main characters Moe, undergoes a change from the beginning to the end of the book. At the beginning Moe is a very quiet person who keeps to herself. At the beginning she also has a bad habit of shoplifting. During the book Moe goes to shoplifters anonymous meetings and they begin to help with her bad habit. The meetings also serve as a way for her to make friends. Towards the end of the book she gives up shoplifting, and as well as throughout the book begin to come out of her shell as she begins to make friends. During her last meeting, Moe stand up and speaks up about what the meetings have done for her and how they had help change her for the better which she would refuse to do at the beginning of the story if asked let alone on her own. In Trinkets by Kirsten Smith, one of the main characters Moe, undergoes a change from the beginning to the end of the book.

Mathew Norton In Ranger's Apprentice, Will started out as a scrawny kid who wanted to be a warrior. When he was picked for ranger he didn't know what to expect. He wasn't patient, quiet, and couldn't sit still if the world depended on it. Throughout the book, he started to pick up these skills. By the end he turned out to be one of the top rangers.

Courtney Cushing | 3 comments In the book Rule of the Bone, the main character Chappie undergoes changes in the book. It starts off with the main character, Chappie, being a druggie who steals things. He steals coins from his mother to buy drugs, and finds out they were very old coins that would some day be passed down to him. Then, he decides to leave home because he can not deal with his step father anymore. He definitely grew up a lot because he had to live on his own for a while, and he had to find somewhere to live, someone to live with, food, and other things needed to survive. During this process, he also met a young girl, Rose, and cared for her as well as himself for quite a while. Chappie also went from being called 'Chappie' to Bone because he got a tattoo of bones. This signified the huge change in Chappie's life, starting with his name. He decided to find his father, and lead a completely different life then what he started out with. In the end Chappie decides to move down on a tropical island, where he will have to care for himself. Overall, Chappie experienced major change.

Amelia Pappalardo | 3 comments In the book Thirteen Reasons Why a girl commits suicide and leaves tapes behind for reasons why. In these tapes she leaves names and stories and if you get them sent to you that means one is about you. The main character, Clay Jensen, gets these tapes and he is a nervous wreck. He doesn't really fully understand why he is in those tapes but when he did get to his name he felt relieved. I think by receiving these tapes from her it pulled him out from where he was because he always wanted to help her, just never got the chance and after she died he felt terrible for never going up and talking to her. The change in him was from being shy and not knowing what to do, to being confident and strong. This was a life changing experience for him an I think it was for the better.
life changing

Sarah | 3 comments In Paper Towns by John Green, Q changes very much. In the beginning he is a rule follower. Does not get into trouble or even think about doing bad things. However, when the girl next door (Margo) climbs through his window his life is changed forever. She shows him how to overcome his fear. When Margo goes missing Q uses what she taught him to try to find her. What he does not know is that she did not want to be found. Overall, Q goes from being afraid to go into trouble to being okay with a little bit of fear.

Bridget | 3 comments In the book I just finished reading, "The Mark of Athena," the character that I believe changed the most is Piper. At the beginning of the book she was a wimp, always worried about losing Jason, and completely unsure of herself. As the book went on, however, she used that to her advantage. When Jason and she were facing a river god, she used her worry of losing Jason to make her go forward and get the god's horn for Hercules. Later, at the end of the book, she was the one that saved herself, Jason, and Percy. They had to fill a well with water while they were in it. The catch was, there was no opening at the top. She made them almost kill themselves so they could live. Her thought was, they were going to die anyway, why not try to live. Throughout the book Piper went from a scared, helpless girl, to a brave and fighting warrior. She is definitely one of my favorite characters.

In my book The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien Lieutenant Jimmy Cross is already starting to change in the mid part of the book. As being apart of the war Lieutenant Jimmy Cross has left a lot behind including the love of his life, Martha. He knows that Martha does not love him back and that all of the fine lines in her letters do not matter to her. He loves her but now he is learning that he needs to move on from a person who doesn't love him back. He is starting to change because he is committed to move on from her and to become a better leader then he ever was to his men. He already burned her letters and he is thinking of other ways to get rid of photos of her. He is also thinking of a ways for him to become a better leader. This is a huge character change and though he has not completely moved on, my guess is that as the book progresses that he will move on from Martha and become a better leader to his men. This change is good and bad at the same time. It is good that he is moving on from Martha but the way that he is doing it is by pushing down all of his feelings inside of him and shutting out his feelings completely.

Joshua Landry | 3 comments In the book Montana 1948 David undergoes a life changing event in which he is forced to grow up and be an adult faster than other kids his age had to. In one part of the book it shows him listening in on his parents as they talk about how his uncle had raped his patients. He listened as his parents fought about this on the porch. This was the first step in him being forced to grow up. After that many other events lead up to his uncle committing suicide in their basement, however David felt a little relieved that he had done it. This caused him and his family to move away and ha their lives changed forever.

KayKay Desrosier | 3 comments In the book Go Ask Alice,Alice is the main character in this book because its her journal, and in the journal she talks about everything in her life that's good or bad. Alice starts out in the book as a girl still in love with her ex wanting to change herself into someone new to try and move on. Her dad gets new job so they have to move to a closer location to his job and Alice doesn't want to move because she wont have any friends which is going to make her depressed and angry. As the book goes on you will learn that after her move,Alice changes for the worst into a girl who's addicted to different types of drugs, and begins to gain weight again. Her gaining wait makes her want to go back to dieting which is basically no eating for her because she doesn't like how she is gaining weight. Alice begins partying a lot with friends after her move, and her drug addiction gets worse. She is hoping that one day when Roger notices her change he will go back to her,and she'll get her happily ever after. Alice goes on many dates with guys and she still cant get over Roger. Roger who isn't apart of her life anymore is holding her back from finding something in her life that will make her happy and want to change into something good. I'm almost done with the book so I'm not sure how the ending is but I don't see much change happening from where I am to the end.

Zach McGouldrick | 3 comments The Character I chose to write about is Captain Lee Harden in "The Remaining" Series. WARNING: This could get a little graphic, given that it's a zombie book. From book one, to book three, the captain has learned to adapt to methods that no longer work in this crazed world, or that have changed since he started battling FURY infecties. An example of this is at the beginning of book three, when we see Lee and his squadron lure in an take out a pack of infected, playing on their senses. "Now the tip of the crowd had reached the bubbling pan of guts. They stood back perhaps three feet away or so and circled around, wary of the heat but certain there was food there"(9). This quote shows Lee and his team setting up a decoy for many, up to 150 infected, and taking them all out at once, nearly clearing an entire town. So, to conclude, Captain Lee Harden has changed tactics based on how the mentality of the infected changed.

ShreckIsLove | 3 comments My first independent reading book was Heaven by Alexandra Adornetto. The main character, Beth, an angel, has fallen in love with a boy, Xavier, a mortal. This is forbidden and causes many problems within the peace mission. To prove that they should be allowed to love each other, Xavier joins the peace mission and they fight Hell's demons together. The experiences that these retched creatures put them through makes Beth and Xavier come out even stronger in different ways. As they work together, trust, love, muscle, and strategies build. Not just with each other, but with everyone around them.

Jason Catoggio | 3 comments In The Wheel of Time, Rand Al'Thor is the main character. Throughout this entire 14 book series Rand has had to go through 3 changes. In the begining he is just a common farm boy but when someone comes to his village he is told he has unknown amount of power, as he goes through the series he comes upon his first change, which is when he realizes he must lead his people and these empires to kill and conquer to make sure that the world is ready for the Last Battle. Then has he goes on he feels he must become harder than the hardest substance, and keep his feelings inside him and not feel so that he can be strong enough. This is his 2nd stage where he finally kills a women that was not a accident, which broke his one rule. His 3rd change comes after this when he meets his father and he realizes what he his doing in a sense and he goes to the tallest mountain. Here he decides that fate of the world, whether he would break because he is so hard or learn to feel again and save it. This is his final change before The Last Battle where he remembers his past lives and feels again, this causes him to see what he has done wrong and he is able to fix pretty much everything. I have definitely seen how he has changed so far and it has been for the better.

Claire | 3 comments The character in Good Omens who undergoes the most dramatic change is Adam, the Antichrist. Due to a mix up at the hospital, thanks to a scatterbrained Satanist nun, the Spawn of Satan was sent home with a lovely, unassuming, completely average middle class couple. Over the next twelve years, he was raised to be a totally normal, if rambunctious, twelve year old boy, with no supernatural interference in his life. That is, until he met Anathema Device, the witch who moved into Jasmine Cottage in his peaceful little town of Tadfield. She lent him a pile of magazines called "New Aquarius," which contained fantastical ideas about aliens, Atlantis, occultism, and other things he'd never known about before, such as how the rainforests are being cut down. These new novelties cause his powers to stir, making Atlantis rise and Tibetans pop out of the ground. Slowly, however, his interests turn more to the cutting of the rainforests and the holes in the ozone layer. The information begins to make him angry, and he begins to talk about how rotten a world the adults are leaving. This is when his powers awaken properly. He morphs into a version of himself that is not him. That is, Adam's body is still the same, but the person inside it is different, and bent on destroying the world and everyone in it except for himself, his three friends, and his dog, then rebuilding it in his own image.

MaxHarvey | 3 comments In the book Fight Club, The main character undergoes rather dramatic changes. At the beginning of the story the main character was rather innocent,(if innocent means going to health groups and pretending to have that disease). But when the main character met Tyler Durden, the main character started to change. First, he and Tyler started a thing called fight club, which was basically an underground fighting routine where people will fight until someone gets knocked unconscious or gives up. Then as time progressed, Tyler had a "Brilliant" idea of starting something that is called project mayhem. Which is basically what it says in which the people in this group will wreak havoc throughout. And to be said to be legit, the main character has to kill 12 people and prove it by showing Tyler their licenses. So even there, you can see that the main character doesn't seem to really care as much for humans lives as he did at the beginning of the book.

Jacob Guerrette | 3 comments In my book "The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green, the character Hazel changes a lot from the beginning to the end. She first started out as a shy girl who did not want to communicate with anyone. But her mom drove her to go to support group meetings. She ended up finding a boy named Augustus. They became friends and ended up liking each other more than just friends. And Hazel changed from a shy person to an outgoing person. She has a sense of humor too.

Izzy | 3 comments In the book "When" by Victoria Laurie, Agent Faraday goes through a huge change. Agent Faraday may not be the main character, but I feel like he does change quite a bit. He used to be mean, rude, and always give Maddie impolite comments. He never gave her a chance to talk, and no matter what evidence he got, he always wanted to suspect Maddie. But then something changed, after he gave Maddie the test. He realized how extraordinary she really is, and decided to believe her. He then asked for her help. And in the end, they actually became what you could call friends. In conclusion, Agent Faraday went from being an extremely unreasonable guy, to a great friend.

Haley keeffe In the Book It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini, the character who undergoes the biggest change would be Craig. At the beginning of the book, Ned was struggling with depression. School stressed him out, his parents stressed him out, his best friend was even dating the girl he was in love with. Nothing was going right for him. He knew he had an overall good life and was dealing with normal teenage problems, but he couldn't stop the feelings of sadness in his life. He wanted to commit suicide, but at the same time he just wanted to live. Once he checked himself into the mental hospital, he started making friends, learning lessons, and falling for a girl. By the end of the book, he wasn't cured, not at all. But he learned that he wanted to live, no matter what. He understood that it was going to be a tough journey, but he finally had hope. He learned that there are so many things to live for. So overall, he went from questioning living his life, to knowing that's all he wants. To live.

Lindsey Boylen | 3 comments In the book pretties, Tally Youngblood goes from being ugly in the book Uglies to being pretty. She went from wanting to be pretty to not wanting to be pretty and then back to wanting to be pretty again. I am not that far in my book so I am not sure how she will really change in other aspects of her life. Though I do know that she isn't as much of a criminal anymore. She is really into just going to parties and doing whatever she wants. I think that all of these changes that happened with Tall really needed to happen just so that she could figure out who she really is.

Kate Gilbert | 2 comments Bruno, in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, undergoes a change throughout the course of the story. He starts as a young boy who lives in Berlin, always running around and playing with his friends, exploring the house, and living in the lap of luxury, until one day he is told he has to move. After Bruno moves to his new house, which he does not even know where it is located, he is deeply sad and angry. He hates that the house only has 3 floors, and he hates that there are no places for exploring. He also hates that his 3 best friends for life aren't there, and there are no children to play with in sight. Until he sees the fences and the thousands of people behind them. While exploring one day outside, he comes across a boy that is sitting near the fence. He befriends him, and becomes close to him. Although, he is very upset that he cannot play with him, since the fence separates them. Over time Bruno forgets about his friends in Berlin, and the house itself in Berlin. He begins to like it at his new house with his new friend. He becomes more curious as to why the fence is there, and makes enemies along with this curiosity. The change that Bruno went from hating the fact that he had moved, to forgetting everything and liking it there, was important because for such a young boy with a curious mind, change is almost impossible. That being said, Bruno, the young explorer, has proved the impossible to be possible.

Baylee | 3 comments In the book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the main character, Charlie hasn't changed that much yet. Charlie just started high School and he didn't have very many friends to start off with. He is a very smart kid and reads a lot. Ever since he started High school no one would really talk to him, he didn't necessarily mind at the time, he was very lonely but always stayed true to himself. Then one day he decided to go to one of the football games and thats where he met his friends, brad, sam, and Patrick. He began to hang out with them a lot and didn't feel as lonely. They changed him by making him feel important, and worth something. Charlie is starting to become more outgoing and more comfortable with high school. So far in the book he hasn't changed much other than a few things like getting friends and become less uncomfortable.

After being accepted into a very prestigious school in Manhattan, Craig starts to suffer from depression. He gets worse and worse everyday, and finally goes to a doctor. Craig gets prescribed medication, and he starts to get a better. He feels so good he stops taking the medication because he thinks he is cured. After not taking the medication his whole world spirals out of control, and admits himself to the ER because he wanted to kill himself. After being admitted to the adult mental hospital, Craig finds himself getting better and figuring his life out. Craig finds his "anchor" (what makes him happy) which is drawing and learns how he can survive and be okay in the outside world. Maddie | 3 comments In the book Extras by Scott Westerfeld, Aya the main character, has gone from being a meek little extra, into the eighth most famous person in the whole city. When the book first started, one of the first details given about Aya was that she was ranked 451,396 in the city. As time went on, the book started to explain that Aya would do anything to become famous. And that is just what she did. She lied her way into joining a secret clique, just to expose them. When she stumbled across a huge secret that there were people planning to destroy the city, she decided to expose that. When Tally Youngblood came to Aya and said that she needs her help in stopping the City Killers, Aya said yes. She knew it would get her more famous, and she wanted to help stop the city from the killers. Aya has turned from being a nobody extra, into being one of the most famous people in the city. This change is not a great change, because she cant be trusted. She is doing anything to become even more famous.

Jillian | 3 comments The main character in the Queen of the Tearling, Kelsea, has undergone changes since she was first introduced. She is becoming more set in who she is and who she plans to become. In the beginning, Kelsea was a clumsy girl who could read quickly and knew very little of the history of her kingdom. She had been secluded from interaction with the world around, leaving her to have a vivid imagination and idea of what the world would be and how she would make it better. After leaving this secluded environment to return back to the Keep so she could rule the Tearling, her life was constantly threatened. This made her become more resilient and versatile. Kelsea is still clumsy and cannot wield a sword, but she is intelligent and audacious. With these qualities she possesses she is learning to become a stronger person who can rule a fallen world and make it rise again.

Alex is very close to Jack, they treat each other like siblings. At first she was very protective over Alex and wanted to know where he was at all times. Of course she was scared when m16 recruited Alex as a spy, but when m16 wanted Alex to do his second mission she was a little more easy going. In conclusion Jack changed through out the novel.

In the story he is not the only one that goes through a change Thorin the "King Under the Mountain" starts out only wanting his home back, but when they get it back, he becomes greedy and would rather have a war then give away a small sum of his practically infinite amount of money. Tanja Kasjanov | 3 comments The character in Allegiant that undergoes a huge change is Tobias. When Tobias left the city he was all excited and curious what they would find outside the faction system. In the beginning of the book Tobias was full of energy and love even though the times were very rough and he kept all the secrets to himself. An example would be in the beginning of the book Tobias sneaks Tris to a fence where they sat all the way up high and no one could see them. He did it against the rules but he wanted to spend some time with Tris. He would do anything for Tris even if that would mean turning against his mother. He was full of energy, as in he would do anything, even dangerous, to have fun. He loved Tris very much and even though that doesn't change for much, his love for her still changed for the better. Then about half way through the book there is a change of his behavior and everything else. When Tobias finds out that he is not Divergent and that his father would be released after the trial of his conviction to go outside the fence, Tobias changed for the worse. He was always tired and he started fighting with Tris again. He hardly slept at night and he would be nervous and abrupt about a lot of situations. This change was for the worse until now.

Meaghan | 3 comments In the book I recently finished, The Cellar, The main character in the book, Summer, changes a lot. In the beginning of the book she was about to go to a summer party with her friends. Her parents and boyfriend didn't want her to walk to the party alone, because they were scared that something would happen to her on the way there. Summer told them that nothing ever happens in their town, and said she'll be fine to walk alone. She then left, upset with both her parents and boyfriend. On her way to the party a man kidnapped her. When the man took her he changed her name to Lily. There were 3 other girls that he already had. Summer didn't want anything to do with them, and she hated when they called her Lily. He held her captive for months. When she was finally found and taken to the hospital, they started calling her Summer again. She thought it was strange and corrected them and said her name was Lily. When Summer was in the hospital, she couldn't stand not being around the other girls, because she felt safe around them, First she didn't want anything to do with them, when she got out of the hospital they spend almost everyday together. Summer has changed a lot in the novel, and I think that she has changed for the better,

He soon began to learn how to be self sufficient, and made crucial decisions. John adapted legacies and understood how to control them. He used them for the greater good, and made smart decisions that helped people. He started out alone with little experience, and grew to a strong leader making sharp-witted resolutions to the groups problems. He was sent to earth to save the others, and return home in peace. Knowing this, John proved to me he was ready to achieve greatness, and accomplish what he was meant to do. Overall, John evolved into a smarter, stronger, more efficient leader that made moves which saved lives.

Ahmed Hameed | 3 comments In the book I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore, John Smith aka Number Four goes through an incredible amount of change. Number Four has been used to running away his entire life. From state to state, city to city. Until one day he moves to this small town in the middle of nowhere called Paradise, Ohio. This city is where number Four decides on the name John Smith which he end up keeping. This is the city where John makes his first girlfriend. This is the city where Number Four stop running away from his enemies, and faces the Mogadorians. John develops his first power or legacy here, he is trained on how to use his powers by his guardian. Throughout this book John learns how to be more confident in himself and his abilities. He learns how to face his problems instead of running away from them. And most of all he learns how to be more independent after his beloved guardian or Cêpan dies. John watched Henry die right in front of him, killed by his worst enemies, the Mogadorians. But as much as it saddened John, he was able to move on. This is an example of his growth and maturity, being able to let go of the past and prepare for the future. In conclusion, Number Four or John Smith goes through quite a bit of change for the best.

Noah | 3 comments In my book, Divergent by Veronica Roth, the main character Tris goes through a big change from the beginning of the book to where I am now. She starts off very polite and shy. This is the way she was brought up. Then a huge decision she makes changes her life and personality forever. Throughout the book she starts showing traits that had been previously hidden inside of her. She was becoming more brave and outgoing. Learning to face her fears and step outside her comfort zone. In the end she made a huge character overhaul.

Emily | 3 comments In the book Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt the main character Ally had very low confidence in the beginning of the book. She wanted to be normal like all the other kids in her class and she thought no one could help her. When she transferred into Mr. Daniels class she started gaining more confidence. She also started realizing how awesome it was to be different because if everyone was the same then it would be boring. Overall, Ally gains more confidence by the end of the book because she realizes how great she is.

Gabby.Fisher | 3 comments In the Delerium series by Lauren Oliver Lena and Hana have basically switched personalities. At the beginning Hana was the one going to illegal parties and listening to illegal music, dragging Lena along. Lena was the one who was extra careful and just couldn't wait to get her procedure. Then Lena met Alex and the tables turned. She became reckless and started breaking the law. Hana saw what happened to Lena and she got really scared. She changed herself and got the procedure and settled down with her match. Lena, on the other hand, ran away into the wilds to be with Alex. Overall, Lena and Hana pretty much became each other and went their separate ways.

Ian | 3 comments In the book "War Horse" Joey goes from being a farm horse to being one of the greatest war horses of them all! Joey began his life on the farm at an auction, where Albert's father paid a lot of money to get him. Joey was later trained to use the plow effectively. Albert personally helped Joey through this. Joey and Albert developed a great connection but later Joey went to war. This change was sudden for Joey and was very hard for him to get over. The first time Joey went to war, it was a horrible sight to see, it was almost too much for the horse to handle. Eventually, after being through a few battles, Joey became a hero to the other soldiers and an icon in World War 1.

Victor Popov | 3 comments In my previous book Brian's Return, by Gary Paulsen, Brian is saved from the wilderness yet again, and he nearly goes insane from missing the woods. Later, with the help of a blind counselor, when he returns, he meets a man much like him named Billy. Brian later finds out that that is what he wants in himself in the future. He wants to be like Billy, roaming the wild. He became changed because when at first he was canoeing to meet some friends, he ended up just moving through and living in the woods. Instead of going to his previous wilderness how he was saved from, he decides to sleep under the canoe, and be one with the wilderness. He wants to be away from civilization, and with the animals. As much as Brian missed his mom and dad, he knew it was better for him to stay out of the way, and in the wild.

Tommi O'Neil | 5 comments In Just Listen, Annabel has changed a little bit. Before, in the beginning of the book, she has been very quiet and shy, but now she is talking to boy named Owen. I think Owen is changing her for the good. They both are pretty quiet and kind of in there own world. Owen like to just listen to music and keep quiet, but then Annabel and Owen start talking and things just go up from there. Before, Annabel would go home and just go to her room and do her homework, but know she will talk to her sisters more, she will talk to her parents more. She is getting more social and so is Owen a little bit. All in all, Owen is changing Annabel in a good way, and if they stay friend and/or date, Annabel and Owen will be better people and more outgoing.

David Drew | 3 comments I the book On the Run, the main character thinks that fishing might be more important then his family. The reason the reader might portray this in the main character is because this book was being told around the time when 9/11 occurred. I think during this time the character changed drastically in how he acted and how he dressed. The only thing that kept his mind off of the incident was fishing. It kept the fear from taking his mind over. The reason he did not stop his adventure is because I think he was scared to go back and see the disaster that occurred. Over all this instance changed the character in many different ways.

Bridget Rossignol | 3 comments In "The Fault in our Stars" by John green, a character that goes through the most change is Hazel Grace. In the beginning of the book, she is quite, conservative, and sad. She doesn't hangout with anyone. Then a young man named Augustus Waters comes into her life and changes her for the better. He gets her to break out of her shell, to hang places besides her room, and he makes her overall happy. Then something happens, that I do not want to spoil for anyone else, but it sends her back into deep sadness. However it also inspires her to carry on.

Grace McGouldrick | 3 comments In the book Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, both the characters have gone through major changes in the book so far. Eleanor is new to the school and hasn't made any friends. Everyone hates her and she doesn't know why. Her family has been going through a terrible divorce and her mother has a horrible husband that beats her every week. On the other hand, a boy named Park also goes to the same school as Eleanor. Park is honestly kind of a loner except for his one friend. Nobody really dislikes Park because he has gotten on everybody's good side. Park has a wonderful family with a big house. On Eleanor's first day of school she sat with Park. At first they didn't like each other. Well that's what they thought. After a week or two, they started to talk, a lot. Now they really like each other but they don't want anyone to know. But they can't hind their true feelings for each other so everyone knows anyway. Park has changed into a guy that actually talks to people in school and has a 'almost girlfriend' that he thought he could never get. Eleanor goes to school now looking forward to the day because she gets to see Park, and he life is slowly getting better. Both of these characters are going through change but it's all for the best.

Noah Tilly | 3 comments In the book, "Hammered" by Kevin Hearne Atticus O'sullivan went through a big change when he lost two of his best friends. His friends Leif and Gunnar both died on a revenge mission to kill the Norse god Thor. Leif had his head smashed to a pulp and gunnar was stabbed through and through. Yet they managed to kill Thor at the cost of both of their lives. After the entire event Atticus is now being actively hunted by the entire Norse Pantheon. The change in Atticus is very noticeable, his paranoia level shoots through the roof. Atticus is also extremely wishy washy when it comes to making a decision because he blames himself for the deaths of Leif and Gunnar. Now he is reluctant to decide on a lot of things before analyzing it for anything that can go wrong. In conclusion, Atticus has changed throughout the novel "Hammered" by Kevin Hearne.
