Alicia | 1490 comments Finished The Unhoneymooners and I did really enjoy it. I put it under Business/ white collar professional. The heroine is a scientist with a PhD.

Not sure what I’ll read next, but won’t start it till tomorrow.

message 52: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Thanks Chrissy! These are fun!

message 53: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I finished Lessons in Chemistry and put it in the second white collar worker. I used green in plans and completed tabs to indicate second round. Will start A Pale View of Hills tomorrow.

I'm finding audio easier while dogsitting because I can listen and play with her at the same time. Her family has less of a normal 9 to 5 than I do so I need to get her energy out after work so she'll let me sleep!

message 54: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments Chrissy, I love those outfits!

I finished Pride and put it under the second formal event since that seems like a tough category to fill (there’s a funeral in it and the book actually spends some time talking about the clothing people are wearing).

I started reading Sunshine last night, but only got 13 pages in before I fell asleep. I also got an email that my library hold for Remarkably Bright Creatures came through so I might start that one today or tomorrow.

I really enjoyed The Flatshare so I’m glad you’re liking it, Caitie!

message 55: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments My baby was being a jerk last night and stayed up from 1-4 am but I got a lot of reading done! Just finished The Flat Share and put it as Pants: someone with business clothes on the cover. I consider a blue button down and khakis business casual at least!

message 56: by Traci (new)

Ugh! Sorry the kiddo kept you up! Nice you're able to read when that happens! I agree that that should count. I echo the group that really enjoyed the Flatshare (I even have chosen to use it as a reread for a prompt).

message 57: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I just finished Everything Sad Is Untrue and put it as Business/A book between 300-400 pages.
Next I am reading Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake and listening to Nightwork. I might finish Rosaline Palmer tomorrow night and Nightwork I should finish on Friday.

message 58: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Started The Man Who Died Twice today but have been a bit distracted. My 17-month old has started biting at daycare and I’ve been a mess thinking about it.

message 59: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments My husband’s favorite thing to say when our son was under 2 was “babies are jerks”. Sometimes being a parent really sucks but things will get better, Caitie and Alicia!

I decided to read books in series I’ve liked since I’m on spring break and am just trying to relax. I binge-listened Protect the Prince and got the next book in the Deal with the Devil series. I will probably finish those by Friday.

message 60: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I finished 2 today and slotted them in. We can move A Pale View of Hills to black and white cover if no one ends up finding another option there (I almost put it there anyway, but thought maybe it was better to fill a first prompt? Maybe?)

message 61: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 519 comments I took a day off from reading because I wasn't feeling better from this virus I have and I binge watched book-related movies and TV series. I watched Women Talking which was superb and maybe better than the book and the entire second season of Bridgerton. I know these don't count, but I'm back on track and reading again.

I'm reading Other Birds and just started reading The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho. They don't fit any prompts so i'm just counting what I read as pages unless we start another round of outfits.

message 62: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Not a big reading day for me, ironically because I spent the whole day doing book-themed activities, haha. Picked up some pulls at the comic book store (that *was* the bit of reading I did, in fact; the last issue of Know Your Station #5 came out today, and it's a fantastic conclusion), drove to San Diego to check out a new (ish) bookshop, then went to a V.E. Schwab & Olivie Blake talk at another bookstore. So basically, not much time to read, but I did come home with several new books... ;)

Basically I'm doing tomorrow is reading, though, so that'll get back on track!

message 63: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Thanks Kathryn! That’s totally true.

And Roxana that sounds like a wonderful day!!

message 64: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Martha wrote: "I took a day off from reading because I wasn't feeling better from this virus I have and I binge watched book-related movies and TV series. I watched Women Talking which was superb and maybe better..."

Sometimes we need a day like that, I hope you're feeling better today!

message 65: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I don't know where we were at the actual midpoint, but at the end of midpoint day we had 4 outfits finished and only one book left for the first round. We've read 4 books towards a 2nd round. Great job everyone!

I plan to listen to books for both office workspace and business clothes since I put them on hold when we were struggling with those in the first round and my holds came in. Obviously feel free to slot in books there if they fit, but just thought I'd mention in case people are actively seeking out books for prompts.

message 66: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Oh, and the only prompts without at least one option now are book that features a holiday, and black/white/gray cover. We might be able to do some juggling for either of those if these prompts are hard to find.

message 67: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Oh I missed the holiday one, are we counting vacations as holidays. I think holiday means different things different places. But UnHoneymooners could fit there and and Lessons in Chen can move to white collar.

message 68: by Traci (new)

Sorry if that was confusing, those two would both be for second round. But...I have no opinion on holiday, fine with me either way, "vacation" is "holiday" in the UK, probably some other places too.

message 69: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I didn’t finish anything today, I should finish listening to Nightwork tomorrow and I should also finish Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake tomorrow.

message 70: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 519 comments I slotted a book in the black, white and gray cover a few days ago, When Women Were Birds or something like that. I put it in Completed category under Plans and beside the category under Outfits. I’m not by my computer so I’m not sure I have the right pages.

message 71: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Martha, your black white gray cover is good! I was confusing in my earlier post, I was referring to prompts without options for the second round.

message 72: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Finished The Undocumented Americans and slotted it as gloves, the fancy font one in formal. Next up is I’m Glad My Mom Died, which I’ve been looking forward to for a while!

message 73: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments I’m planning to read I'm Glad My Mom Died in the next few months, so I hope you enjoy it!

I finished Protect the Prince and put it in for imaginary world. To be honest, I probably would have given up on it if not for the readathon and our need for this last prompt. I was really mad at the book/author because there were just so many cliches, and poor writing, and it had nearly every romance trope that I hate (other woman drama, drama caused by poor communication, lying for whatever reason, etc.). The end was fine but the journey was not enjoyable. I had liked the first book in the series and thought the author was pretty good, so this was a disappointment. I will not be continuing the series. I’m hoping my next book is better.

message 74: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I finished Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake and added it to Party/A book with food or drink on the cover. I also finished Nightwork and added it to Party/A book with at least 4 colors on the cover.
I will probably finish only 1 more book, The Marriage Portrait but we shall see.

message 75: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Sorry I’ve been slower this read-a-thon. Hoping to finish The Man Who Died Twice tonight or early tomorrow morning. Don’t know if I’ll be able to finish another book but will be able to get hours in this weekend

message 76: by Traci (new)

Ugh, sorry you didn't enjoy this book. Especially annoying since you liked the first one! I feel like that's worth some extra ruffles!

message 77: by Traci (last edited Apr 14, 2023 10:47PM) (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Whelp, tonight got away from me when some things that really needed to get done took MUUUUUCH longer than expected (and than they should have). I have plenty of time to read this weekend though, so I think I'll still finish the 3 books I have on the spreadsheet.

message 78: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I’ve got a weekend readathon happening as well over the next two days, in another group, so I’ve saved up a few of my shorter things for that. So hopefully I will manage to finish a whole bunch of novellas by Sunday night!

I did already read The Bruising of Qilwa tonight and added it to imaginary world. It was good, a little heavy-handed occasionally but still an intriguing read. And I’m Iranian American, so getting to read an Iran-inspired fantasy world made up for any slight shortcomings in the writing for me 😂

message 79: by Martha (last edited Apr 15, 2023 11:49AM) (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 519 comments I finished Other Birds early, early this morning and started Weyward right after. My goal is to finish Weyward by tomorrow and hopefully squeeze in just one more short book by tomorrow night. I hadn't realized we were on round 2! This week has passed so quickly!

I put Other Birds in Casual: Author I've read before and Weyward is potentially in two categories of small town/rural area and a book that is not totally chronological.

message 80: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Ooh Martha, let me know how you like Weyward.

Finished The Man Who Died Twice and put it under Party/ a humorous book. I highly recommend this mystery series. It’s such a joy.

Does anyone have any good novella/short books published this year to recommend? If so, I can start that tonight and probably finish. Otherwise I may just be able to contribute pages

message 81: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I don't think I've read any books published this year yet, so have no recs.

message 82: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I did not finish anything today. I will finish The Marriage Portrait tomorrow.

message 83: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I actually found another short book that fit one of remaining categories.

For some reason the 2023 prompt is the hardest for me. The ones I’m excited to read don’t come out till the Fall

message 84: by Caitie (new)

Caitie | 144 comments Just finished I’m Glad My Mom Died. Realized afterwards that it featured a holiday so put it on that prompt.

Probably won’t finish another book tomorrow so will just work on pages!

message 85: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments I had a busy morning but was able to finish The Devil You Know and I put it in for cross genre.

message 86: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Finished A Tale Dark & Grimm and put it under Avant-shards/author you haven’t read before. That finishes up our 2nd round of avant grade.

Won’t be able to finish another by tomorrow, but will add pages.

message 87: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 519 comments I reached 125 pages in Weyward today (it's really good). I hope to finish tomorrow. I'll continue reading another hour or two (it's midnight) and try to get halfway before calling it quits before the morning.

message 88: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Good morning everyone! It's the last day of the read a thon and I'm impressed with what we've accomplished!

I think there's a chance we could finish round two based on what's in progress. I just stared some at the spreadsheet and think I'm going to move A Pale View of Hills to black/white/gray cover. That means the casual outfit Roxana finished last night is no longer finished, but we can finish it if (1) Martha finishes Wayward and we move Silver in the Wood to under 200 pages or (2) I found a short audio under 200 pages I can get to if needed. Sound good?

message 89: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Traci, that sounds good to me!

I’m hoping to finish a couple more books today, so should be able to help round those out, including Road to Perdition which does the business clothes prompt.

message 90: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I moved it! I'm still planning on finishing my books that can fit business clothes and pattern on the cover if they aren't filled by others.

message 91: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I am going to be finished with The Marriage Portrait shortly which will fill the Formal prompt, a character who is royalty or nobility.

message 92: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I finished The Marriage Portrait so we have finished Formal for the second time. Awesome job team! I have really enjoyed reading with you all this week!

message 93: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments Just finished The Road to Perdition, which I was planning on putting on business clothes, but looks Traci just beat me to it 😂 still helpful for pages toward the last undergarments, though, I think!

Without/before moving books around, looks like we could use just pattern on the cover (which, Traci, you might still finish?) and under 200 pages left. I’ve got a couple hours remaining of an audiobook that’s under 200 (Drowned Country, by Emily Tesh), so I’ll plug it in there if we still need it by the end of the day. 😊

message 94: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 519 comments I finished Weyward, which was an okay read for me, but it's not a book I would reread. I'll look to see what category to put Weyward under in the Casual outfit.

I doubt I'll finish another book today so I'm going to complete my challenge. I read fewer books than planned, but I'm happy with what I could complete.

Thank you all for another great Readathon experience! It was fun!

message 95: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I just sent to plug in my pattern book, and found out we completed our second round of outfits! Woo Hoo!

message 96: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 259 comments I’m probably going to finish my book tonight but I don’t think it will actually matter since we managed to finish two sets of outfits. This was lots of fun!

message 97: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 775 comments I got a few more pages but nothing more finished after Drowned Country. Great job, everyone, we got so many outfits! Another fun readathon! 🥰

message 98: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Fantastic job everyone!!!

message 99: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1142 comments Yay team! Sorry I didn’t have time to find more actual outfits… business and avant-guard we’re going to be difficult. It was fun reading with y’all!
