Sara Roncero-Menendez | 8 comments I am looking for a children's chapter book I read in the late 1990s (probably 1998 or 1999, maybe 2000 or 2001). The story was, in part, an adaptation of Dracula but also featured an Addams Family-style family where the mom bathed in moonlight. The cast of the book was all anthropomorphic animals (kinds of in the style of Little Critters but not quite that). It was part of a series, I think. Also the Dracula may have been a duck? But I may be misremembering that part.

The cover was illustrated, with several of the characters on the front. I think part of a larger, established franchise where the spooky vibe was not the overall aesthetic. Would have been a middle grade book by today's standards (not sure if that was the term used back then).

Becca (beccalikesbooks) | 5548 comments I know you said it isn't Little Critters, but could it be one of the Critters of the Night books, which are illustrated by Mercer Mayer (the same person who wrote and illustrated Little Critters)? The Vampire Brides has a duck Dracula, for example, and it looks like there's a family that appears throughout the series, e.g. in the first book, Werewolves for Lunch.

Oh my goodness, you're totally correct! You absolutely nailed it! Seeing the cover of the Vampire Brides immediately brought me back to reading this on my grandmother's porch. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
