I'm looking for a book I read maybe 10-15 years ago but I don't know how old the book was when I read it. I can't remember all the details now, so I am here!

I remember the book's main female character jumping over a fence to get to where the dragons are. The dragons sleep in caves or something like that. The ground they sleep on turns to gold and they don't understand why humans covet the gold so much. I also remember a part where the main dragon character packs a wound with gold to help him heal.

The author was a woman as well, I think. I have done some googling and can't find the author, however. Its not Anne McCaffrey and the Dragonriders of Pern series. That was the fist thing to come up in my search haha.

If memory serves me correctly, the main dragon character does turn into a human at the end of the first book. I'm fairly certain it is a series but I can't remember much about the other books either.
