John is the self-appointed leader of The Sowing Club. He convinces his friends that his wife Catherine is terminally ill and suffering. The men hire an assassin called The Monk to perform a “mercy” killing. Share your thoughts on the scenes leading up to Catherine’s death, including John’s interactions with his wife? Did you see the real John? When did you realize he’s manipulating his friends to help him murder his wife? What’s his motivation?

John had me snowed, at first. I thought that Catherine was the baddie for not getting proper care and not trying to make her situation better. John was a real good actor to convince his buddies that she was so bad off that it would be a mercy to kill her. I realized after her death that John was lying and manipulating his buddies. John needed Catherine's money, and he didn't realize when he married her that he wouldn't have complete access to it.

[Robin]

I fell for it too, Anita. John seemed to sincerely love his wife and was worrying about her terminal condition. He manipulated his friends into having her murdered so he could get his hands on her money. When she outsmarted him, I loved it.

[Sharon]

I'm with you. I fell for it too. Everything indicated that she was ill or having a bad time. John had me believe that he was deeply in love with the woman.

I have to say, as soon as she was dead, I became suspicious of him. What a piece of work.
