Thanks so much for your participation, Marianne. It's great to have you here!

I was hinting for one, as you may have ascertained ;)

Thanks, Cleo, for inviting me to the group, I hope I can participate a bit despite my other obligations (reading groups, work and other hobbies).

Even though I am over 50 I am just starting to get to read most of the children's classics I missed in my youth.
I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Little House books. recently I started Anne of Green Gables series and a few other older books. I am not sure what is considered a classic here but I consider any old book a classic and I know that is probably not the correct way.😊
I did read My Side of the Mountain but started it late in March and finished in April. I really loved it but didn't comment on here yet. I had been planning to read Pollyanna for a while now and that is why I didn't want to change it for May. So if it isn't the group pick for May, I might not join in till the summer.
I am really looking forward to getting more involved in this group.

I'm older than you and still discovering new children's classics that I haven't read before.
I liked The Little House on the Prairie books too-and still do.

I think normally a "classic" is considered 50 years or older but I believe we've relaxed this expectation in the group depending on the book.
If you haven't read them already, I highly recommend the Swallows and Amazons series, the Finn Family Moomintroll books and The Phantom Tollbooth. Those are some of my well-known favourites!

Thank you, I didn't realize there was a sequel.

Thank you, I have not read any of those books.

I've no personal knowledge of the quality of anything beyond the original book.

Well, I have a whole shelf of Pollyanna hardback books that belonged to my mother. I have read the first I know, and I am unsure how many of the others. I liked Pollyanna.

I was thrilled beyond words when I was a moderator for my group when we hit 100 members! Unfortunately that feeling didn’t last (group membership rose to about 700 members when my group was featured on Goodreads). Slowly participation within the group fizzled. You can’t lead a horse to water, am I right? After a painful decision I decided to disband my group and as they say, the rest is history! 😊
Congrats on reaching 100 members! Hopefully more members will introduce themselves and start participating more!

Sadly it's all too common for participation even in very large groups to fizzle out; few make it for the long haul. Some people stop coming to GR for various reasons, or lose interest in participating plus other reasons for stopping.

Welcome all!"
Congrats on hitting 100 members, Cleo! Even though I am not as active anymore on this site because I am not reading these days, I feel horrible every time I receive notifications about this group in my inbox. I always tell myself to stop by and say hello or see if I am in the mood to pick something up, but I haven't done that. :'(

Hi Tiffany! So nice to hear from you!
Not reading! For shame! Only kidding! I’ve been reading but sadly, not as much as I had been. I’m not sure why. My goal, when I first joined Goodreads, was to read those classics that I never read and since I felt I accomplished that goal, I started reading other genres that interested me but perhaps, not as much? Joining this group I thought would help. I’d still be reading classics but now it would be those classics for children that I’ve never read. It’s been a challenge for me though because number one, my library is very limited in their selection of books and number two, let’s face it, I have to be interested in reading the book that’s been selected to read! Take this month’s read. I’m not really looking forward to reading it but I’m pretty sure my library will have a copy. We’ll see how I do! Have you ever read this month’s book Tiffany?
Sorry to be babbling! Just wanted to respond to your post and let you know that I was happy to hear from you! Please check in again! Hope you are doing good and that life is treating you well! 😘

Good luck Loretta. My library didn't have a copy of Swiss Family Rob. and I am in the capital of my state. Three stories high with loads of empty shelves and hardly any classics.

Hopefully even if there are people who are lurking here, the group gives them a reference for children's classics. If I can encourage people to read more of them, I'm happy. And I appreciate everyone's participation more than you know, so thanks everyone who makes the commitment to read and comment. Life is busy and I know that it's not easy to fit everything in, even things you want to. 🙏

Yes I know Karin.

Thanks for letting me join this group. It's very nice meeting you. I haven't been very active on Goodreads for almost 3 years now but have started a relatively relaxed job 6 months which allows me to read leisurely again. I'm also expecting my first child so wanted to discover some classic children's lit so I have some good recommendations ready for her when it's time to share.

Thank you for sharing your happy news with us.
Children's books are great for all ages.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom. She sounds like she had a very full life and I'm sure your celebration will honour her memory.
