BarryP (barrypz) | 3502 comments Red Alert: Peter Bryant
A cold war classic, this was the book that inspired Dr Strangelove (or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb). (A)

Storm Watch: CJ Box
A Joe Pickett novel.. Joe, as always on the outs with his boss, sees bad things happening in his district and tries to get somebody to listen. (A-)

The Maltese Iguana: Tim Dorsey
A farce of the highest order. Dorsey has not lost his attention to Florida detail. The book only gets funnier as you go. (B+)

I’ll stop the World:Lauren Thoman
A Stephen King sort of tale with a minor bit of time travel, and an attempt to change history. (B+)

Calico Joe: John Grisham
Almost a short story, about a promising baseball rookie brought down by a devastating hit thrown by a cruel pitcher, and while their could not be justice, maybe there could be redemption. (B)

The Burglar who thought he was Bogart: Lawrence Block
Bernie is sucked into a scheme and murder that dates back to a little country founded in the wake of the first world war. He is also working through a Bogart film festival, and the movies seem to be blending into his life. (B)

Friday the Rabbi Slept Late: Harry Kimelman
Such a bargain, the first 4 Rabbi books for $1.99. Murder with an ethnic twist. (B)

Saturday the Rabbi Went Hungry: Harry Kimelman
Of course he went hungry, it was Yom Kippur! But again, he did solve the mystery. (B)

Sunday the Rabbi Stayed Home: Harry Kimelman
No Talmudic logic to solve this one, just a close look at the facts. (B)

Monday the Rabbi took off: Harry Kimelman
Last book in the set of 4 i bought, The rabbi needs a rest and heads to Israel. While gone, his congregation plots to remove him, and he gets involved in a suspected terrorist bombing. (B)

I Will Find You: Harlan Coben
Most books require the willing suspension of disbelief. This one requires much more than that. (B-)

The Flock: J Todd Scott
Kindle first. The story revolves around a religious cult and borrows from the Branch Davidian saga. The cult is working for the end of the world, the FBI is trying to stop it. (B-)

The Girl with the Deep Blue Eyes: Lawrence Block
Ex cop conspires with his lover to kill her husband. Hard boiled book, but I can;t say I could like or identify with any of the characters. (B-)

Terror in DC: Randy Wayne White
Originally written under a pseudonym, this assassin type book played to a xenophobic audience as books of this ilk commonly did. (B-)

BarryP (barrypz) | 3502 comments I believe the Rabbi books are a reread for me. Not sure I had gotten all of them, but at 50 cents a book, how could I resist?

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9510 comments Nice month Barry. Lots of familiar titles or authors. I wish I could find a home for I Will Find You, I'm not going to get to it. Maybe donate to the library.

Dawn | 1371 comments Great month Barry! You always give me books to add to my TBR!

Carol, I've been donating books to Litte Free Libraries that are popping up in neighborhoods. There's an app that will give you the location of them (if the owners register them)

Dawn, I love the Little Free Libraries, but most of the ones I know of are filled to the brim and don't have room to squeeze a new book in unless one removes one. And unfortunately they rarely have books that I'm interested in -- the few mysteries are ones I've already read or don't plan to read.
