multiple narrators

Hi, I was wondering if any of you have some suggestions for books with multiple narrators. Sometimes I really get bored with a single narrator. I'd appreciate any suggestions. My recent books with multiple narrators are The Girl On The Train, Big Little Lies and Leaving Time, all of which were great!

We've talked about this in a bunch of other threads, but I don't think there's been one dedicated to this topic yet.

I've enjoyed The Son, A Land More Kind Than Home, and The Invention of Wings. A lot of people have recommended The Help, which I read in print, so I can't speak to the quality of the audiobook. Although, several of the narrators are excellent in other works.

Sometimes memoirs have multiple narrators who are more like guest stars than narrators. Yes Please and As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride had fun guest appearances. I don't think you could get bored with that last one if you are a fan of the movie.

The Audible production of Dracula is phenomenal. They used some of the best narrators and a couple of celebrities. The book was ideal for multiple narrators.

I did listen to The Help and it was outstanding. I also couldn't get enough of As You Wish... (I loved the movie). I also really enjoyed The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society which was done in the form of letters and was very good. If you like the kind of story told in Gone Girl, the two narrators do a fabulous job. Ender's Game is one of my favorite books of all time and has multiple narrators, although I must admit the female narrator was a little too depressed sounding when she read, but the story overcomes it.

thank you for your responses, I have noted those titles. I did enjoy The Invention Of Wings and Help. Sorry if this has been brought up multiple times I didn't realize.I thought with a thread dedicated to this topic others might enjoy knowing the great ones as well! I must listen to Dracula next I think.

While we've discussed the issue of multiple narrators, this is the first time it's been presented as an opportunity for making recommendations, so no worries.

That's right. I got the free Kindle book then bought the Audible book for .99 cents. Haven't listened to it yet but it is in the line waiting for its turn. I always wanted to read Dracula but never did. Now I can read and listen at the same time.

If you liked The Help, you may like Bloodroot also with multiple narrators. I'm listening to it now- and it's excellent.

A slightly controversial multi-narrator book is American Gods by Neil Gaiman. I liked the way it was done, but some found it too jarring. In this version, one reader reads all text while various other narrators perform the spoken words of the various characters. Gaiman is a great narrator himself and obviously a great writer, but the subject matter may not be for you if you don't like paranormal/horror.

I'm sure this is already on everyone's list, but I'd have to say that my favorite "full cast" audiobook, as opposed to multiple narrators, is the His Dark Materials Trilogy starting with The Golden Compass. I believe that the main narrator is the author himself, but don't worry, he does a terrific job.

Other full casts that I have enjoyed are the Redwall books. The author narrates and actors portray the mice, foxes, badgers, moles and other assorted animal characters that populate the stories. While it is juvenile fiction, I thoroughly loved it.

Graphic Audio (graphicaudio.net) does multi-cast recordings, complete with sound effects. They do sci-fi and fantasy, action-adventure, westerns, paranormal, etc. The recordings aren't cheap; the cost is about $25 for a full book download, though they sometimes have CD sales. But they are oh, so much fun. They have done two series from from Elizabeth Moon, the Serrano Legacy, beginning with Hunting Party, and the Vatta's War series, which begins with Trading in Danger.

I still Robert Petkoff. He has blown away any other narrator in my opinion. He has shown so much talent, I believe he actually has done 20 different characters in different voices in any one book... Male, Female, it doesn't matter. He's that awesome.

Let me know if you think we're going in the right direction with this concept? Once we have the mechanics nailed down, we will start casting professional narrators to produce these in our studio, but the little sample will give you the basic idea.
