Team Coast Busters - Chat! ✔
I suppose it depends on how good everyone is with "cohabitating" in the chat! I'm happy to do either. It seems like there will be some decision-making to do for this challenge, so it might be prudent!Maybe a vote?
Should we choose at least one person who is able to respond / post fairly quickly so we can ensure we have one person pretty accessible? Not sure what to base decision on outside of that. Haha
In the current challenge / group I’m in, we’ve had the best look with having the two of us who have able the be the most active do the most of the posting from the spreadsheet/ help find books from the banked books to fit our guesses, etc. so I do think it may be beneficial to try to find a few people willing to help “”lead” a little. We could even choose to change out people every week or so if that helps or if everyone wants a chance.
That's a great idea Kade! I am usually around, and I'm also captaining UNO, so I'm on a lot and usually able to respond often during the week. Weekends are my less available times.
Anyone else??
Switching might be good too. I will be a little busy at work the first week of April, so changing out duties is probably great so we don't all feel like we're putting the bulk of it on one or two people alone.
I currently own a small business, so most of my work is at home. I’m also still healing for surgery / a fall, so I’m available quite a bit currently. I’m available most weekends, aside from the few hours I have to attend to my kids competitions when they occur.
Another idea. With the family feud game, we made a general rule where we needed 2-3 people’s vote to make a guess or agree on the “answer” before we posted. We could do something like that if need be or if we dont do the captains.
All excellent ideas. Maybe be should make a running list and discuss/vote... once everyone has had a chance to check-in?So far...
*Assign group captain and co-captain
*Rotating central people (2) for post/update/etc
*No captains, 2-3 person majority for task decisions
*Wing it!
Awesome! Hopefully all of us will be active here! It's so much more fun when we have an active group. <3
Checking in and raring to go! I won’t be very available until Sunday because I will be watching my grandchildren from tomorrow through Sunday while my daughter and her husband have a little getaway.
Hey everyone, checking in! I can't promise to be super active all the time because of blooming LIFE but I will do as much as I can :)

Changing out people sounds like a great idea - I might not be able to do a whole week, but I could stretch a few days :)
I am all for having team captain/co or like 2 to 3 people for tasking...i have a really weird work schedule and i cant open spreadsheets since they block those things here so for time sensitive things i woudnt be good at those positions
Seems like (so far) we are leaning towards having people "in charge", either rotating or fixed. Here is the challenge schedule:
1st Leg - Starts April 1st, Ends April 7th
2nd Leg - Starts April 8th, Ends April 14th
3rd Leg - Starts April 15th, Ends April 21st
4th Leg - Starts April 22nd, Ends April 28th
5th Leg - Starts April 29th, Ends May 5th
6th Leg - Starts May 6th, Ends May 12th
7th Leg - Starts May 13th, Ends May 19th
8th Leg - Starts May 20th, Ends May 26th
9th Leg - Starts May 27th, Ends June 2nd
10th Leg - Starts June 3rd, Ends June 9th
11th Leg - Starts June 10th, Ends June 16th
12th Leg - Starts June 17th, Ends June 23rd
Last leg - Start June 24th, Ends June 30th
Maybe we should start volunteering for "captaining"? I think 2 people per leg would be good, but I'm also not setting anything in stone, so please everyone share more thoughts. :)
I like the idea of having 2 people per leg as "captaining" and switching out those people so it isn't too much of a burden for any one person. I'd be happy to volunteer for a leg or two.
Got you checked in and added Isabel to Message 1. Team spreadsheets will be made available today - sorry for the delay!! I will let you know once they are posted in Message 1.

This round will cover seven (7) days.

End: April 7th at 11:59 PM (in your time zone)
Please check in on April 7th between 4:00 - 6:00 PM Eastern. This doesn’t mean you can stop reading for the round, it’s just the team checking in for bonus points.

Detours: This will be a list related task. Teams will have two lists to choose from and will need to read 5 books from one list. This can be completed by at least two people from a team (one person cannot complete this task). The Pacific Crest Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail form what is known as the Triple Crown of Hiking in the United States. Read a book found on the Pacific Crest Trail Books or Hiking Books listopia
Roadblocks begin at line #225 on the spreadsheet tab. There’s about 6 spell-outs available - please let me know if you need more.
Roadblocks: This will be a spell-out task. Each team will get the same word. It can be completed as many times as you can. If you start a spell-out and don't complete it, you will be penalized by 5 bonus points per uncompleted word.PACIFIC CREST TRAIL: ✤ PACIFIC CREST TRAIL ✤The Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), officially designated as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, is a long-distance hiking and equestrian trail closely aligned with the highest portion of the Cascade and Sierra Nevada mountain ranges, which lie 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km) east of the U.S. Pacific coast.
Yield: Each team will have up to 3 yield opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'Yield' against. By yielding, you will be taking away 20 bonus points from that team. The Bridge of the Gods is a steel truss cantilever bridge that spans the Columbia River between Cascade Locks, Oregon, and Washington state near North Bonneville. If you want to use your yield this week - please read for the following:
Read a book that is MPG Mythology and has water on the cover (i.e., river, lake, etc.)
Intersections: This will be a buddy read related task. Meaning you will have to work with someone new (whether on your team or another) and read a book together. The buddy can also be someone in the group but not participating in the challenge. You will need to have at least 4-5 comments per buddy read.Read a book with someone new within the group. BOTM can also count for this task. This can be repeatable.
U-Turns: Just like the yield task, each team will have up to 3 U-turn opportunities (once per month). After the task has been revealed and read for, the team will then decide who to use their 'U-turn' against. By forcing another team into a U-turn, you will be taking away 10 bonus points from that team.Forester Pass is a mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada. Located on the Kings-Kern Divide and on the boundary between Sequoia National Park and Kings Canyon National Park, Forester Pass connects the drainages of Bubbs Creek (a tributary of the South Fork Kings River) and the Kern River. If you want to use your u-turn this week - please read for the following:
Read a book that is set in Nevada and has the word 'KING' found in text (pg/% & quote)
Not available at this portion of the challenge:
(view spoiler)
I’d be happy to volunteer for as many weeks / legs as needed. I will be out of town for about 5 hours tomorrow, but outside of that I’m available to do whatever / whenever. :)
Jammin Jenny wrote: "I can read a book from the Pacific Crest Trail listopia if anyone is interested."Jenny, I'm with you! I can read 1 book from that list! That means we need 3 more books. Anyone else?
As a back up, in case we can't finish the Detour, my book with also work for either:
2. Read a book set in Oregon
14. Read a book with an MPG of ADVENTURE
I put 3 books that I know I will read on the spreadsheet. I will most likely have more to add, those are just the ones I have from the library and need to read for other challenges. I will try to figure out what else to read based on what we need, once more people add books.
Oh I wish I'd looked at this one sooner. It's more complicated than I've come to expect from Challenge Corner, at least in the last few months.I can cover at least natural disaster -
and outdoor scene on cover -
this week
Okay I’m a bit confused too. Lol. So we need three more books from that trail list to be able to complete it? If so I can do at least one. Maybe two.
Amanda wrote: "are we allowed to read the same books as each other?"I assume so, that's usually the case
Fairly confused - wish I'd looked at this earlier lol. Have we decided which detour we're going for? I have one I can read for Hiking Books Listopoia
Ellen-Arwen wrote: "Fairly confused - wish I'd looked at this earlier lol. Have we decided which detour we're going for? I have one I can read for Hiking Books Listopoia"I know Jenny and I are reading from the Pacific Coast list.
Here's what I think we have for the acitivies we need more than one person reading:Detours
Pacific Coast Trail - need 0-1 more books
Ashley -
Jenny -
Kade - 1 or 2 books
@Ellen-Waren, if you can find your book on the Pacitic Cost trail list, we can more it there. Looks like we have more books to choose from on the PC trail list.
Intersections - Buddy reads
Read a book with someone new within the group. BOTM can also count for this task. This can be repeatable.
BabyLunLun -
(please fix this as there are multiple books with this title)Who are you reading this with? It needs to be someone new either in this team or in another team.
I'm guessing we don't want to do any U-turns or Yields on this leg since we're just starting out. Any other thoughts?

and

if we need one more, i can also do;
okay, i'm still confused.. can anyone help explain this to me in dumb terms? If i'm reading 2-3 books from the pacific trail list for Detour, do i also need to choose another task to go with it? Or do i literally just read these books, put them in the review thread as "detour-pct list" and be done? In the spreadsheet, i see that ashely and jenny also put a task with it, so i want to be sure I don't 'mess up here.
