Justin (rockstarintraining) Random number generator? Top to bottom of the list? Bottom to top? Alphabetical? Nominations and a poll?

Lemme know. Trying to be as democratic as possible....

Brittney (ladylunabee) | 33 comments I'm usually a fan of the nominations/poll option, but I'm with him, you're the moderator, however you want to do it.

Just had a thought - start a discussion thread for every book on the list . . . then we could just read them whenever! This is kind of a joke, but maybe kind of a cool idea, too!

I've seen that done in other groups, especially groups for fans of particular authors where they just list out all the books for people to comment on. Two issues for me are 1. I'm lazy and 2. there isn't as much discussion just a comment every few months or so from someone who read it, but I like you're thinking! I'd at least like to get several of them listed up for upcoming reads so we can plan accordingly.

Stephanie Random number generator sounds like a blast and requires very little effort. Surprises are pretty cool. It would be nice to know a month or so in advance though.

ally ¯\(ツ)/¯ (allykennedy) | 42 comments I think you should engrave all the book titles into apples. When done, you place all the apples into a bath tub with exactly 7 inches of water in it. You retrieve only one apple using your teeth. Whichever apple you bite is the book we read.

A Youtube video of the process must be supplied to ensure integrity.

The way a lot of groups I'm a part of does it is this:

1. Moderators pick a genre or type of book. (Sci Fi, YA, etc.)
2. Group members nominate books in that category.
3. Other group members second books that are nominated. (You can only nominate or second, but not both.)
4. The first six books that are seconded (or if not enough are, the first books that are seconded followed by the first books nominated but not seconded) are put into a poll for group members to vote on.
5. At the end of the voting period, the book with the most votes wins.
5A. In the event of a tie, the moderators pick between the tied books.

Hope that helps!

Bobbing for books - excellent! I agree: without video documentation, it just wouldn't quite have the same impact.

Great procedure but you can't pick genres in our case: say if you pick sci-fi, you may not even find 6 books on a list of 100 books of all time.

message 19: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) Alright, for real...

I'm gonna combine randomly picking books and a poll for each group read. I'll have more details later tonight. I will also add a thread for buddy reads so we can go even crazier. Thanks for playing along everyone! This will be literally the best decision you've every made it you're life. Literally.

Justin (rockstarintraining) Auto-correct caused me to use the contraction "you're" instead of "your". That's one of my biggest pet peeves! Is it one of you'res? :)
