Ruin and Rising question

So now that the series is out proposing a different ending - which Im also not an enormous fan if, but lets see where it goes…
I would much rather prefer seeing Alina and Mal training the new Grisha together - Alina like Baghra and Mal like Botkin in combat. That would be a much better use of Alinas skills and experience rather than pushing her out completely and making her retire from the entire thing. Its just seems like a harsh punishment to suddenly push her into such a life without her getting there on her own decision. The epilogue literally depressed me.
What are your thoughts?
