First quarter - (view spoiler)[I'm absolutely obsessed! I'm in the middle of two other fantasy series, which I hoped to have finished up before starting this but I couldn't wait. It was really calling to me, today. It is very bittersweet being introduced to these older characters who have lost much of their fame and abilities as they have aged. Time has not been kind to them and they struggle to perform things they once took for granted. We are getting introduced to each individual slowly, as they join the quest to save Rose, and I'm liking the pacing of it. I'm getting a feel for each individual, as they are now and as they all were, in the past and together. I'm already hoping that there is another series about their pasts as many of their notorious raids and battles have already been mentioned with scant details included. They would make for interesting novellas or short stories, if nothing else. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[There have been hints of unease in the band's past but we aren't privy to the details yet. They are nearing Rose (and yet nowhere near, yet) and their success seems unlikely as we learn of the hordes surrounding the city she is trapped in. I've just recalled the second series instalment's title which does kinda ruin the outcome of this book! From what we know of her character already, and without having yet met her, she seems formidable and able to rescue herself without her father's help anyway. (hide spoiler)]
