The book was about a girl from a small town that learns about a gate, on top of the mountain, that will open in 3 days. As the gate opens more and more, supernatural creatures like elves, dwarves, and orcs can come through from their side of the world.
Their goal is to conquer humanity and to do that, they wait for the gate to fully open to send their armies through

She plans to climb the mountain with her friends in order to stop the gate from opening.
She encounters a mysterious tree? spirit? that gives her vague advice. They reappear throughout the book to help her.
She also encounters others who want to help her as well as she climbs the mountain.
As she continues the journey, she gains mastery over the elements to help her.

It was revealed that one of her friends that left the town with her was a traitor. He tried to take a hostage, one of her friends. But she defeats him and he escapes.
In the end, she said her secret name three times in order to control the gate and send everyone back. Everyone except the general of the elves. However, she helped his family in her past life, which led him to spare her.
